Introduced in the second generation of Pokemon, with the Pokemon Gold and Silver games, Smeargle is a well rounded Normal type. It is not known to evolve into or from any Pokemon and is a good Pokemon for those starting off on their journey but that changes soon after. While it may be a good choice for early on, as you catch more powerful Pokemon, Smeargle struggles to keep up.

Appearance
Smeargle is a small bipedal Pokemon that barely reaches waist height for many trainers as it isn’t as large when compared to others. Smeargle has mostly white fur, with brown splotches across its legs, arms, ears and eyes. It has a tail that could be used for a paintbrush and has on its head something that looks like a beret.
Behavior
Using their tail, Smeargle will mark what it considers its property with paint from its tail. The color of a Smeargle’s paint will change, depending on how they feel. Each Smeargle has its own signature, which makes them unique and something of a collectors item for humans. They purchase markings, and try to collect from a single.
Strengths and Weaknesses
With no Evolutions or powerups, Smeargle might not be the best choice when it comes to battles. While it has a move that allows it to copy the opponent’s move, it’s a risk that is almost never worth it, as combined with Smeargle’s low speed it rarely gets to strike first. But as an archetype Normal type Pokemon, it is only weak to Fighting type moves and takes twice the damage from them. Furthermore, Smeargle is immune to Ghost type moves and takes no damage as a result.
Shiny Smeargle
With it hard to locate in the wild, finding a Shiny Smeargle is tricky as it is tough to track down. The main difference between a normal and Shiny Smeargle is also subtle, as Shiny Smeargle’s main color is now a light yellow, and its tail is now red. . To get a Shiny Smeargle of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild or hatch one from an egg although you could always find someone willing to trade one. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Smeargle gains a starry animation upon entering battle.
How to catch Smeargle in Pokemon Go?
Smeargle is unique to capture, as it is not available anywhere or in raids. Instead, you have to take a picture with your Pokemon, and there will be the chance that Smeargle will “photobomb” one of those pictures. After that, it’s a simple catch but, once caught, Smeargle will have the same moveset of the buddy you originally took the picture of.
Trivia
