Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's VGC Regulation G set has brought restricted creatures back to competitive play. These Pocket Monsters are typically those that appear on the box art of the game they first appeared in. Their arrival has led some players to consider what critter they want to add to their party.
With the meta being rather stable now that the format has been around for a couple months, many trainers are looking to experiment with their builds and have begun considering some less popular restricted Pokemon. This has turned their attention towards Lunala and Solgaleo.
Here is everything to consider when choosing one of the two Alolan Legendaries for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's VGC Regulation G.

The benefits of using Solgaleo in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet VGC
Solgaleo is an incredibly good physical Pokemon. With great attack, defense, and HP, it is a decent bruiser with decent offensive coverage. Where it truly shines is in its ability to run Psychic Fangs, which deals bonus damage with the Same-Type Attack Bonus, has a chance to make the target flinch, and breaks Reflect, Light Screen, and Aurora Veil.
Solgaleo also has access to Knock Off, which removes the target's held item. Pairing this with its screen-shattering ability makes it a great choice to ensure offensive carries like Flutter Mane can deal as much damage as possible.
The benefits of using Lunala in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet VGC
Lunala is a Ghost- and Psychic-type critter. This combination is great offensively, as not a lot of types resist both Psychic and Ghost damage. The Pocket Monster also has access to decent coverage options, with Meteor Beam and Moonblast offering it Rock- and Fairy-type damage.
Lunala's main niche has been as a Trick Room setter, which works decently with its lower speed stat compared to other top metagame contenders. Wide Guard can also be used to protect Lunala and its ally from spread moves like Rock Slide and Expanding Force, which many players have used to defend Urshifu.
Why Lunala is the better choice for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet VGC
Solgaleo is a Psychic- and Steel-type Pokemon, much like Metagross. However, being a Steel-type critter, it has a weakness to Fire-type damage. This is an issue considering that Incineroar, a Fire- and Dark-type creature, is the most popular Pocket Monster in Scarlet and Violet's Regulation G.
Lunala is much more useful, with supporting options like Trick Room and Wide Guard to set up for its team. Its wide movepool granting it access to a lot of high-tier damaging attacks in the current metagame makes it much more versitile as well. Its access to Expanding Force also allows it to take advantage of Psychic Terrain.
