Introduced in generation three, with the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games,Solrock is a dual type rock and psychic Pokemon. It is a standalone Pokemon, which means that it does not evolve from or into another Pokemon. However, Lunatone is often considered its counterpart. Solrock is classified by the Pokedex as the “Meteorite Pokemon” which is likely a reference to its general design. This guide will showcase Solrock’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Solrock.

About Solrock

As a generation three Pokemon,Solrock first appeared in the Ruby and Sapphire season of the anime in the episode It’s Still Rocket Roll to Me!. In this episode, Gym Leaders Tate and Liza use Solrock and Lunatone against Ash and his Pikachu. While Lunatone holds some connections to Solrock, they are not connected by evolution. Appearance

Lunatone is a small orange Pokemon that is meant to resemble a sun made from rocks. Most of its body is orange, but there are eight yellow pointed tips around its body. There are two segmented circles marked on Solrock’s body that resemble eyes. They are lined with black and point outwards vertically. Its main core is spherical and it seems to float wherever it goes. Solrock is an average sized Pokemon at 3 feet and 11 inches, or 1.2 meters, tall.

Behavior

As Solrock’s appearance implies, it prefers to be out during daylight. While its features never change from emotion, it is capable of sensing the emotions and thoughts of others. Solrock is capable of producing an intensely hot and blinding light. Despite their affinity towards the sun, they prefer to spend their time in caves. The Pokedex mentions that Solrock’s origins may have come from outer space. It is often depicted alongside Lunatone as the counterpart of its day/night cycle.

Strengths and Weaknesses

While Solrock can stand out in the early stages of the game, its low base stats prevent it from being a truly threatening Pokemon. Solrock is geared to be a physical offensive Pokemon but its speed is not high enough to compete against other aggressive Pokemon. Even though it received a boost to its health pool in generation seven, Solrock is overall a weak Pokemon. As a dual type rock and psychic Pokemon, Solrock takes 2x damage from bug, ghost, steel, water, grass, and dark type moves. It is immune to ground type moves, and resistant to normal, flying, poison, fire, and psychic type moves.

Best Moveset

While Solrock had its time in competitive play, it has since become an underwhelming offensive Pokemon. The release of newer Pokemon allowed for new strategies and it became difficult for Solrock to keep up. However, Solrock can still function as a defensive Pokemon as it can set up hazards and slow down your opponents. With the Leftovers, as a held item, and the Levitate ability, Solrock has the time to disable your opponent’s Pokemon. Consider running Stealth Rock, Rock Slide, Will-O-Wisp, and Morning Sun. This set is aimed at setting up hazards and then using Will-O-Wisp to burn as many of your opponent’s Pokemon as possible. You can use Morning Sun to keep Solrock healthy while your opponent’s Pokemon continue to get burned and are forced to switch out into Stealth Rock.

How to Catch Solrock in Pokemon Go?

If you would like to obtain a Solrock in Pokemon Go, you will likely need to travel or communicate with other players. Solrock is a region-locked Pokemon, which means that it can only naturally spawn in specific regions and in this case that is only in the Western Hemisphere. Within this region, you can find Solrock spawning in the wild, at a boosted rate, near cities, neighborhoods, beaches, parks, and other residential or dry areas. Solrock can also hatch from 5 and 7 km eggs from these specific regions. If you can obtain an egg from a gift that originated from the Western Hemisphere, you have a chance of obtaining Solrock as well. It has also been featured as a tier three raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. Since Solrock does not evolve from or into another Pokemon, you can save all the candies you collect to power up your Solrock.

Trivia

  1. Both Solrock and Lunatone share the same Pokedex classification as the “Meteorite Pokemon”.
  2. The inspiration for Solrock’s design is likely based on the sun.
  3. The name Solrock is a combination of the Latin word Sol (Sun), and the word rock.

FAQ

What does Solrock evolve into?

Solrock does not evolve from or into another Pokemon. While it is often featured alongside Lunatone, neither of these Pokemon are connected by evolution line. It is likely meant to go along with the day/night cycle theme that these Pokemon embody. Once you have obtained a Solrock, you can move on to collecting other Pokemon.

Is Solrock a good Pokemon?

Solrock can function as a counter to physical attacking Pokemon. With easy access to burn status effects and a high base physical defense, Solrock can shut down an aggressive physical attacking Pokemon. However, while Solrock can appear to be resilient, it has many type weaknesses to watch out for.

Is Solrock a rare Pokemon?

While Solrock typically only appears in one location throughout all of its appearance, it typically has around a 20% encounter rate. As long as you know where Solrock spawns, you can easily find it with enough dedication. It can be considered an exclusive Pokemon as it would only spawn naturally in Pokemon Ruby, whereas Lunatone would only spawn in Pokemon Sapphire.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Meteorite Pokemon”. While Solrock’s impact on competitive play is limited to its debut generation, it can still be a menacing Pokemon. Thanks to its access to status-inflicting moves, Solrock can easily slow down your opponents. Even with many weaknesses, Solrock can win an entire battle if it is used correctly. Reserve a slot on your team for Solrock if you want a disruptive rock and psychic type Pokemon.
