Introduced in generation seven, with the Pokemon Sun and Moon games, Stufful is a dual type normal and fighting Pokemon. It is the base evolution of Bewear and will evolve once it reaches the level threshold. Stufful is classified by the Pokedex as the “Flailing Pokemon” may be a nod to its general behavior. This guide will showcase Stufful’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Stufful.
About Stufful
As a generation seven Pokemon, Stufful first appeared in the Sun and Moon season of the anime in the episode A Dream Encounter!. Appearance
Stufful is a quadrupedal Pokemon that resembles a pink teddy bear with black legs but its body has a pink colour palette with white stripes. At its base, there is a small tail as well as a tag that you would see on a plush toy. Each of its four feet are rounded and there is a small pink circle at their base. It has a bear-like snout and two ruffled ears that seem to resemble butterflies if they were put together. Stufful is a small Pokemon at only 1 foot and 8 inches, or 0.5 meters, tall.
Behavior
For such a small and cute Pokemon, Stufful is formidable. It is known as the “Flailing Pokemon'' because its flailing can cause significant damage and send larger Pokemon or people flying. Stufful is an emotional Pokemon and it will only allow trusted friends to touch it. If a stranger touches a Stufful, it will go into a frenzy and it is powerful enough to snap a large tree in half. The Pokedex mentions that it is a soft and fluffy Pokemon, but it's aptitude for frenzying can make it dangerous.
Strengths and Weaknesses
As a base evolution Pokemon, Stufful does not have many strengths. Its health pool and physical attack are decent for a base evolution Pokemon, but the rest of its stats are subpar. Stufful’s speed and resistances makes it difficult for Stufful to fulfill a particular role on your team. As a dual type normal and fighting Pokemon, Stufful takes 2x damage from fighting, flying, psychic, and fairy type moves. But it is immune to ghost type moves and resistant against rock, bug, and dark type moves.
Best Moveset
As a base evolution Pokemon, Stufful is exclusively limited to the LC (Little Cup) bracket of competitive play. In this format, Stufful only has to face other base evolution Pokemon which can make it easier for Stufful to succeed. It is typically used as a bulky offensive Pokemon with an Eviolite held item. With its ability Fluffy, it can take more hits than normal but will take even more damage from fire type Pokemon. Consider running Swords Dance, Return, Brick Break/Superpower, and Ice Punch/Earthquake. Swords Dance is what enables Stufful to perform as an offensive Pokemon, Return benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Brick Break/Superpower are interchangeable as Stufful’s fighting type move, and Ice Punch/Earthquake are interchangeable depending on what type coverage is better for your team.

How to Catch Stufful in Pokemon Go
Unfortunately, Stufful is not currently available for capture in Pokemon Go. While the developers are releasing generation seven Pokemon in the game soon, it is not guaranteed that Stufful will make it to the next update. Some generation six Pokemon are yet to be introduced so it is likely that there is still some time before Stufful becomes added to the game. When Stufful is added to the game, you can find it spawning near residential areas, college campuses, parking lots, stadiums, and other neighborhood areas. We will not know which egg Stufful will hatch from or if it will be available as a raid boss until it is released. Stufful will likely require 50 candies in order to evolve into Bewear.
Trivia
- The inspiration for Stufful’s design seems to be a combination of the Red Panda and stuffed animals like teddy bears.
- The name Stufful is likely a combination of the words stuffed and scuffle.

FAQ
Is Stufful a boy or a girl?
There is no strict gender requirement for Stuffuls in Pokemon as they have a 50/50 ratio of males and females. You are just as likely to encounter a male Stufful and a female Stufful. The anime will typically specify a certain gender for a trainer’s Pokemon, but unless officially stated, you will just have to guess on whether it is a boy or a girl.
Is Stufful based on a Red Panda?
Stufful seems to be a combination of the Red Panda and a teddy bear. Stufful’s physique is similar to Red Pandas in real life, but it obviously has a stuffed animal quality to it as well. At the base of Stufful’s tail, you can see a small tag that would be similar to a plush toy or a teddy bear.
What animal is Bewear based on?
Bewear is just a larger Stufful although while Bewear walks on two legs, Stufful walks on four but their general design does not change much. Bewear is likely just a larger Red Panda mixed with a teddy bear. Bewear’s Japanese name is Kiteruguma which is a combination of the Japanese words kiteru (wearing), kigurumi (costume), and kuma (bear), which draws a connection to a large bear mascot costume worn by people.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Flailing Pokemon”. While Stufful does not impose much of a threat through its appearance, it can quickly get out of hand in battle. Stufful’s cute charm and fighting capability makes it an interesting Pokemon. It only gets stronger and larger through evolution. Reserve a slot on your team for Stufful if you want a normal and fighting type Pokemon that can pack a punch.
