Introduced in the third generation of Pokemon, Swablu is a dual Normal/Flying type Pokemon that doesn’t just look cute but has the potential to become a heavy hitter in your team. It takes time and dedication, but once evolved, Swablu can be more than just an adorable Pokemon for show. Appearance
Swablu takes inspiration from avains, however this Pokemon is far more unique than most of the winged Pokemon here. That is because it seems to be part bird and part cloud with wings seemingly made out of clouds. It has a blue body but since it has no neck, its head and body look like they are one and the same. Not only that, Swablu has variations of light blue across its body and beak, with black and white eyes and two stray feathers on the top, just above the eyes.
Behavior
Swablus are something of a clean freak and thus don’t like being around dirty environments. It will even clean the environment if it has to, and if Swablu ends up becoming dirty itself, it will find a stream to wash it’s body. Thanks to the appearance of its wings, Swablu can easily hide among clouds, becoming practically invisible. It is, however, incredibly friendly towards humans and not afraid of them at all. At times they’ll even perch on top of people’s heads from time to time, and its size doesn’t make it an inconvenience.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Swablu’s best stat is Special Defense but the rest of its stats are a bit lackluster. While under the right circumstances it can be effective in battle, they are few and far between. For now at least, it best to leave Swablu in the sidelines, at least until it evolves into its stronger evolution.
Furthermore, as a Normal/Flying type, Swablu is resistant against Bug, Fighting and Grass type moves. Not only that, it is immune to Ground and Ghost type moves but is weak against Rock, Electric and Ice type moves.
Shiny Swablu
Finding a Shiny Swablu is tricky due to the odds of you finding one in the wild, the numbers are not in your favor without patience and time. But if you do spot one, the difference between a normal and Shiny Swablu is obvious, as the latter’s body is now gold. That is the only change as its wings, feet and beak all remain the same in both versions. To get a Shiny Swablu of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild, hatch one from eggs, or you could always find someone willing to trade one. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Swablu gains a starry animation when it enters a battle.
Best moveset for Swablu
Return | Roost |
Cotton Guard | Agility |
This moveset emphasizes survivability above all else, buffing Swablu so that they can handle more moves from opponents and get faster and raise Defense. Return is a move that gets more powerful the higher Swablu’s happiness is. Roost restores half of their HP while removing the Flying type on them for the rest of the turn, an excellent move for decreasing the chance of a super effective move, leaving them only vulnerable to Fighting moves. Cotton guard raises Swablu’s defense by three, while Agility raises speed by two.
How to catch Swablu in Pokemon Go?
At the moment, the easiest way to catch Swablu for yourself is to just walk around. Swablu are fairly common to find around Pokestops but windy weather will give you a higher chance to encounter a Swablu. Once encountered, more often than not a simple Pokemon and a well placed throw are all that’s needed to ensure capture. It needs 50 candies to evolve into Altaria.
