Pokemon fans who also enjoy Minecraft might be interested in the Cobblemon mod, one of multiple quality Pocket Monsters mods for Mojang's landmark sandbox game. However, each mod in this category is different, and Cobblemon is certainly no exception. Since this is the case, there are a few things that prospective players might want to know about this mod before downloading it.
While Cobblemon has a dedicated wiki for more specific questions that Pokemon fans might have, it doesn't hurt to take a look at some general facts that you should know before you dive into Cobblemon for the first time.
Five things you should know about Cobblemon, the Pokemon x Minecraft mod
1) It is Highly Compatible with Minecraft and Modpacks

As an open-source Pokemon mod for Minecraft, Cobblemon has a very high degree of compatibility with Minecraft and the modpacks created by the community. If you're using things like datapacks or modpacks and they aren't working with mods like Pixelmon, Cobblemon may very well work out better while still keeping the gameplay relatively similar.
For fans who love datapacks, there are even ways to introduce new creature variants or "Fakemon" since Cobblemon is so compatible with editing and tinkering.
2) Some Pokemon Have Unique Forms
Although Cobblemon has the Pocket Monster forms that fans have come to expect, it does have some unique and intriguing forms that are exclusive to Cobblemon. For example, players can obtain different variations of Torterra based on Minecraft's various tree types. There are also new regional types such as Alolan Pikachu which don't exist in the core series of Pocket Monsters games.
While this addition may not be ideal for Pocket Monsters purists, it's something that players should be aware of before diving into the mod.
3) It's Currently Available for Both Forge and Fabric
When it comes to installing and running this mod, Minecraft fans will be happy to know that Cobblemon is supported by both of the major mod loaders for the game. Both Fabric and Forge can install and run Cobblemon efficiently, but if fans are using more niche mod loaders like NeoForge or Quilt, they may have to rely on the two mainstays unless Cobblemon gains additional functionality later.
4) Some Pokemon are Still Being Added
Although Cobblemon has done an incredible job of introducing as many Pocket Monsters as possible in the mod, there are still some creatures that have yet to be introduced. Since every Pocket Monster comes complete with its model and animations in the mod, some creatures (particularly those from Generation IX and the Padlea region) are still a work in progress.
Still, the majority of the current Pokedex is obtainable in Cobblemon, and it likely won't be long before the last few Pocket Monsters are introduced in future updates.
5) It Utilizes the Pokemon Showdown Battle Engine
By using the battle simulator of the popular site Pokemon Showdown, battles are incredibly accurate in Cobblemon and can suit both casual and competitive fans alike. Moreover, the battle engine allows gameplay quirks like the ability for the trainer to move around during battle in a similar way to Legends: Arceus. This way, players can still mine and collect resources while their Pocket Monsters battle.
Regardless of whether players are enjoying the mod solo or in multiplayer, the battle system can facilitate ordinary battles or competitive bouts between trainers alike with an incredibly high degree of fidelity to the core Pocket Monsters series.
