Appearance

Thwackey is based on a Monkey as well as a caveman. Primarily green in colour this Pokemon always holds two sticks on both hands and is humanoid and biped. On top of its head is a leaf in the shape of a palmate which is a dark green shade. The rest of the body except for its ears, arms, tail, lips and hands are lime green. On its face are two eyes with the shape of flower petals with lips right in the middle of them, which are orange. Its ears, arms and tail are all of a dark brown colour while its hands are orange in colour, always holding two brown sticks.

Behavior

Thwackey are genetically drummers, asserting dominance by their pace of rhythm. The faster the Pokemon is at beating out a rhythm, the more respect they gain from their peers. Their pace in drumming is not only respected due to its ability to get a tune out of it, but also to show the power this Pokemon can exhibit in battle. While drumming it out in battle, Thwackey can get so immersed that it can fail to notice that it has already defeated the opponent. Because of this, it should be monitored in battle as things can get pretty violent pretty quick, even leading to fatality.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Thwackey is a pure Grass type so its weaknesses are pretty basic. It is weak against Poison, Flying, Bug, Fire and Ice type moves but is resistant to Ground, Water, Grass and Electric type attacks. However, it is immune to no types and thus takes normal damage from the rest.

Best moveset

Thwackey is incredibly strong in NFE due to its ability Grassy Surge along with access to Swords Dance and Grassy Glide. Swords Dance sharply increases your attack by two stages. This will be incredibly beneficial to Thwackey while dishing out damage. After using Swords Dance, almost always start with a Knock Off as not only does it deal double damage to a Pokemon with a held item, but also knocks the item off, which is beneficial in most situations. Then follow it up with Grassy Glide, which is one of the strongest Grass type moves that can be executed if done under the right situations. This is where Grassy Surge comes into play. It gives Grassy Glide priority, which is also almost always a good thing. In addition to priority, it also deals bonus damage due to receiving STAB. But it doesn’t end there as it gets additional damage from the Grassy Terrain which boosts the damage of Grass type moves. Finally, combining it with the damage boost from Swords Dance, it turns this Pokemon from a clueless drummer to an incredible sweeper. If the Grassy terrain ends, you can use Dynamax to restart it using Max Overgrowth. If that also ends or if you are hard countered by the opposing Pokemon, use U-Turn to get out of the field as you don’t want to lose such a useful Pokemon. In addition, upon re-entering, Thwackey regains the Grassy Terrain.
