With Pokemon GO's newest Max Out season bringing creatures from the Galar region into the popular mobile title, the thought of the region's Legendary Pokemon often comes to mind among the community. One user on the Silph Road subreddit has noticed some interesting details while reviewing the rulesets for Max Out's competitive Battle League cups.
Eternatus, the Legendary for the Galar region, has officially been acknowledged by Niantic in the ruleset for one of these cups. However, its outline on the sheet has left many players confused, as the silhouette appears to be that of Cutiefly rather than Eternatus itself.
Of course, many fans were quick to hop on the joke, with user zhurrick referring to this instance as being a secret reveal of Eternatus' new "Tinymax form". However, there may be more to this post than many fans may initially suspect.

As can be seen in the post above, there are a lot of odd depictions of some of the Galar region's Legendaries, as well as its Fossil Pokemon, and Duraludon. A reasonable explanation for this is that the Max Out season has just begun in Pokemon GO, and, likely, Niantic hasn't yet added all the models for each Galar creature into the game.

This is why the other creatures on the sheet appear as black squares, but why Eternatus appears as Cutiefly is a mystery. Given how the other creatures have their respective placeholder icons, one would rightly assume this is the case for Eternatus as well.
This one post has uncovered a lot of information regarding the plans for Niantic and how they intend to add various details from the Galar region into Pokemon GO. User Princevader points out that Eternamax Eternatus is present in the files for the game, but this variant has never been available to catch before.
Another user, Educational_Eagle267, pointed out that this particular Pokemon has impressive stats and potential in the game.
Additionally, the outlines for Zacian and Zamazenta show their standard "Hero of Many Battles" forms, rather than the Crowned forms they are known for. This could imply that these Crowned forms will be handled similarly to Mega Evolutions or Primal Reversion. This would make a lot of sense considering how these Crowned forms have much better base stats and an additional typing in the main series.
What to look forward to in Pokemon GO's Max Out season?
While Eternatus appearing as a Cutiefly on the cup rules sheet is a funny hiccup, most likely done as an inside joke at Niantic, making the biggest Pokemon use the smallest species for its placeholder sprite, this potentially uncovered a lot of exciting information about the future of Pokemon GO. Most notably, about the future of Zacian and Zamazenta.
With Eternamax Eternatus present in the files for Pokemon GO, it could be possible that Crowned Zacian and Zamazenta could have Adventure Effects similar to Necrozma, Palkia, and Dialga, with their potentially being tied to Max Battles.
The signature moves for Zacian and Zamazenta, Behemoth Bash and Behemoth Blade, deal massive damage to Dynamax Pokemon in the main series, so their Crowned forms having access to these moves as Adventure Effects for dealing with Max Battles would make a lot of sense.
