Pokemon GO has seen a wave of harsh criticism as 2024 nears its end, with many players giving their two cents on how the game can be improved in various ways. User u/EquivalentReality988 recently started a discussion on the game's subreddit with their post on how they would make the game better.

Many users have shared their sentiments in this post as well, agreeing with the original poster and weighing in with opinions of their own. Claiming Pokemon GO has very little engaging comment at the time of making, u/EquivalentReality988 shared the following post:

In their post, the user shared their ideas to revitalize Pokemon GO's gameplay to naturally drive up player engagement once again. One of their biggest changes is the removal of the Rediscover Kanto era, which was implemented by Niantic to increase the amount of wild spawns for monsters from the Kanto region.

User u/Many-Waters expressed their disappointment with Rediscover Kanto, which is fair considering that these creatures featured have been present in Pokemon GO since the game's launch, and many users have already had access to these monsters for quite some time now.

With Niantic adding newer creatures from the Paldea and Galar regions, many are underwhelmed that they find Kanto monsters in the wild instead.

Another point made in the original post was that a rework of the gym system may be required. Location spoofers and gym hogs have made the gym experience for casual players almost impossible in many areas. Reworking the gym system in a way where casual players would be incentivized and rewarded appropriately for the challenge of taking them could improve the gameplay experience.

In regards to the return of Legendary Pokemon through research breakthroughs, many users like u/SilentStepX would seemingly appreciate their return alongside other rare creatures. Since Niantic has turned its attention towards incentivizing the purchase of Remote Raid Passes, it is unlikely that Legendary Pokemon will return to research breakthroughs.

Nevertheless, the low quality of creatures offered through research breakthroughs has led to many players leaving the game altogether, with the rewards for daily gameplay not being worth the effort. Consistently offering decent monsters like Pseudo-Legendaries or Starter Pokemon would bring many of these players back.

How can Niantic bring players back to Pokemon GO?

If Niantic felt that Pokemon GO required changes, they would have to look no further than the many community posts specifically mentioning what the playerbase wants. Showing that they are willing to listen to and work with the community will not only make the game better but will also restore some brand loyalty among consumers.

However, in its current state, Pokemon GO is very hard to reap benefits from with a free-to-play experience with things like event tickets and Remote Raid Passes. This likely makes the developers a lot of money, so change is unlikely.
