With all the strong and gigantic Pokemon that exist, the question may arise: where did they all start? Well, Pokemon has an answer to that in the form of baby Pokemon. Infant forms of Pokemon freshly hatched from their eggs. And none of them is more well known than the literal egg Pokemon, the fairy-type Togepi.

Appearance of Togepi

Togepi is a very simple Pokemon. It's similar to a turtle with its stumpy limbs sticking out of its shell, however, its shell is what's leftover from its eggshell. The shell is covered in small abstract shapes colored bright primary colors. Its head sticks out from the top of the shell and has three soft points extending from it.

Behavior of Togepi

Togepi is generally friendly but helpless. Being a newly born Pokemon, it often attaches to its trainer and stays at its side at all times. It relies on the person it is attached to protect it and will be easily scared. It often cries in reaction to being frightened as well.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Togepi is a pure fairy type which means it has very few strengths and weaknesses. It takes half damage from fighting, bug, and dark type moves, and takes double damage from poison and steel type moves. It is also completely immune to dragon-type moves.

Togepi Evolution

Togepi Evolution can be difficult to understand and attain. Togepi Evolution requires high friendship as well as leveling up. Togepi is an incredibly weak Pokemon so leveling it up is difficult but the friendship part of the Togepi Evolution is difficult to see. Friendship is an invisible stat that is raised just by walking with your Pokemon in your party as well as winning battles with them. Though letting the Pokemon faint lowers friendship so to attain Togepi Evolution you will need to be very careful training such a weak Pokemon.

Shiny Togepi

Shiny Togepi is difficult to spot. The only difference between a Shiny Togepi and a normal Togepi is its skin color. A Shiny Togepi has a darker, more orange shade of skin rather than the original’s light yellow.

Misty's Togepi

Misty’s Togepi is a classic Pokemon star of the original series. Misty’s Togepi first appeared as an egg found in the episode ‘Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon’ then hatched from the egg in the episode ‘Who Gets to Keep Togepi?’ Misty’s Togepi was not actually caught by her, it actually saw her when it hatched and believed she was its mother, imprinting on her. At the end of the Ruby and Sapphire episode ‘A Togepi Mirage!’ Misty’s Togepi, now newly evolved into a Togetic, was left to protect other Togepi in the Togepi Paradise.

How to Catch Togepi in Pokemon Go

Togepi does not appear in the wild in Pokemon go, it can only be hatched from eggs. It only hatches from one egg type, the 7 Km egg. The best way to obtain one is to simply hatch as many 7 Km eggs as possible as the Pokemon that hatches from them is random.

Trivia

Togepi is the only baby Pokemon that debuted before its evolved form was seen.

While Togepi is from the Johto region, it appeared in the Kanto version of the Pokemon anime early alongside an early appearance from Ho-Oh.

Togepi’s category is the Spike Ball Pokemon but all of its Pokedex entries in the original series anime refer to it as the Egg Pokemon.

Togepi has the lowest attack stat of all Fairy-type Pokemon, tied with Marill and Azurill.

FAQs

Q. Is Togepi a rare Pokemon?

Togepi tends to be rare in the games. Most of its appearances are exclusively from hatching special eggs received only once or hatching from eggs by random chance.

Q. Is Togepi worth using?

While Togepi may seem underwhelming at first, its evolutions are definitely worth the work for them. Togekiss is frequently used competitively and even in the LC competitive ruleset, Togepi is used in its unevolved form as a tank.

Q. What happened to Misty's Togetic?

Mostly left her Togetic after it evolved in the Ruby and Sapphire episode ‘A Togepi Mirage!’ It stayed at a place known as the Togepi Paradise in order to protect the other Togepi that lived there.

Conclusion

Togepi may be weak but it sure made an impact when it first came out. And despite its weakness, it's even used in very niche competitive rulesets giving it nice representation in all forms of Pokemon play.
