The Pokemon with the highest base stat totals are by and large the most powerful in the games. This is thanks to their well-rounded stat spreads, giving the borderline broken to above-average stats across the board. However, who are they? Which Pocket Monsters come to mind when fans of the franchise think of the most powerful creatures.

This article sums up the top 10 Pokemon with the highest base stat totals. However, it does not consider gimmicks like Mega Evolution and Dynamax as these give creatures elevated stats that are temporary.

10 Pokemon with the highest base stat totals

Honorable mention: Koraidon, Miraidon, Groudon, Kyogre, Regigigas and Slaking (BST: 670)

Opening up this list are the box legendaries from the Gen IX games and the first Gen III games, alongside Regigigas and Slacking. Given its status as the leader of the Regis, it is only fitting that Regigias is here. However, Slaking, a completely regular Normal-type is the only non-legendary to make, which makes it a unique entry.

Each of these creatures is extremely powerful, featuring either extremely high Attack and Defense and/or Special Attack and Special Defense stats.

10) Xerneas, Yveltal, Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma, Solgaleo, Lunala, Rayquaza, Zekrom, Reshiram, Both forms of Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, Ho-Oh and Lugia (BST: 680)

680 is the most common base stat total for Box Legendaries to have. This is depicted by the presence of 10 such creatures being part of this rank. Among all the creatures that have this BST, these are relatively the least special as it would be expected for box legendaries to receive special treatment from the developer, and, therefore, possess top-tier stats.

9) Hoopa Unbound (BST: 680)

Hoopa Unbound is an incredibly strong Mythical Pokemon, and the only one to be part of this list. It belongs to the Kalos region and is one of the most interesting Pocket Monsters according to the lore. Hoopa Unbound is also the creature with the second-highest Special Attack stat in the game. It is the only creature to know the move Hyperspace Fury.

8) Shadow Rider and Ice Rider Calyrex (BST: 680)

Shadow Rider and Ice Rider forms of Calyrex are merged versions of Calyrex with Spectrier and Glastrier respectively. The former is a fast Special Attacker while the latter is a slow but tanky physical Attacker. Aside from being two Pokemon with the highest base stat totals, they are two of the most promising Pocket Monsters in the Generation IX VGC doubles formats. Their signature attacks are known as Astral Barrage and Glacial Lance, respectively.

7) Mewtwo (BST: 680)

Mewtwo is one of Game Freak's poster children. Therefore, it being one of the Pokemon with the highest base stat totals in the series is only natural. It is an extremely powerful Special Attacker, with the fifth-highest numbers in that department out of all non-Mega Pocket Monsters. Its popularity and the fact that it has been around since the earliest days of the game gives it the highest position among the 680 BST 'mons. Mewtwo's signature attack is Psystrike.

6) Eternatus (BST: 690)

Eternatus, the source of the Dynamax phenomenon in the Galar region, is the only creature with a base stat total of 690. It is also the biggest Pokemon of all time. These traits make it an absolute unit when faced in battle. If possessing such fantastic stats was not enough, it can also become stronger when it takes its Eternamax form. Here, its base stat total becomes a whopping 1125. Dynamax Cannon and Eternabeam are this Pocket Monster's signature moves.

5) Stellar Form Terapagos (BST: 700)

Stellar Form Terapagos is the first critter on this list with a 700 BST. Despite being one of the Pokemon with the highest base stat totals, it can only perform under certain circumstances, that is when it is Terastallized. However, it is such a unique creature and the source of the entire Terastal phenomenon, that it deserves a spot on this list.

4) Black and White Kyurem (BST: 700)

These are forms of Zekrom and Reshiram when they fuse with Kyurem in Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, respectively. Before the introduction of the the Figibax line in Generation IX, they were the only Ice and Dragon-types along with Kyurem. They have signature moves called Freeze Shock and Ice Burn, respectively.

3) Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta (BST: 700)

Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta are the best Pokemon with 700 BSTs. While they are not the Pokemon with the highest base stat totals on this list, they are among the strongest ones when it comes to competitive Pokemon. Their signature moves—Behemoth Blade and Behemoth Bash, respectively—and powerful offensive and defensive typings give them a lot of options in battles.

2) Complete Forme Zygarde (BST: 709)

Complete Forme Zygarde is the most-powerful Pocket Monster to come out of the Kalos region and with a BST of 709, it is only short of being the Pokemon with the highest base stat total by 11 points. That said, it could take down Arceus unless the latter comes in holding the Icicle Plate.

1) Arceus (BST: 720)

Arceus (Image via TPC)

It is no surprise that Arceus is the Pokemon with the highest base stat total in the franchise. Without taking into consideration phenomena like Mega Evolution and Gigantamax, there is no single creature that can surpass Arceus, the God of Pokemon. It has an even 120 points to each of its six stats, contributing to this humongous total.

That covers the Pokemon with the highest base stat totals in main series games. If Mega Evolutions were included, a bunch of 'mons such as Mega Rayquaza, both forms of Mega Mewtwo, all the Mega pseudo legendaries, and others would overtake several Legendaries in this list.
