Torkoal Appearance

Torkoal is a four-legged Pokémon that looks like a tortoise with a huge, black, rock-like shell with red holes that shine warmly. It has reddish-brown skin with gray-black stripes running down its legs and its lengthy neck with eyes that appear to be closed all the time. Torkoal likes to dwell in mountains and volcanic environments, where it searches for big coal reserves. It fills the empty areas in its shell with coal before burning it for energy. Torkoal was the only known Pokémon capable of learning Eruption in Pokémon Sword and Shield before the release of The Crown Tundra.

Behavior

Torkoal becomes immobile when it runs out of coal to burn since coal is its only source of energy and furthermore, it will die if the fire within its shell goes out. If the smoke erupting from a Torkoal's shell has a high velocity, Torkoal is healthy. The sounds emitted from a Torkoal resemble a locomotive horn when it blasts smoke from its nostrils and the top of its back. Before escaping and while being assaulted, it exhales black smoke from its nostrils.

Strengths and Weaknesses

It is weak against Ground, Rock, and Water types moves, taking double the normal damage against them and is resistant against Bug, Steel, Fire, Grass, Ice, and Fairy-type moves, taking half the damage.

Best Moveset

Torkoal has both Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin, which appears impressive when combined with its high Defense stat. However, it has poor defensive typing, as it is vulnerable to all entrance hazards, is easily taken advantage of due to its slow speed and has no recovery other than Leftovers, which makes it difficult to use on a team. Thus despite its stronger defensive type and ability, Torkoal is outperformed by other Stealth Rock setters.

Rapid Spin is necessary on Torkoal, as it enables it to remove troublesome entry hazards such as Leech Seed from the field. Stealth Rock further strengthens its function as a support Pokemon to help whittle down opposing Pokemon as they switch in. Lava Plume is Torkoal's primary offensive attack, which threatens physical attackers with a 30% burn chance. Yawn threatens to oppose switch-ins and setup sweepers due to its function of putting a foe to sleep after two turns.

How to catch Torkoal in Pokémon Go?

Torkoal is a Fire-type region-exclusive Pokémon from the Hoenn region that does not evolve into or from any other Pokémon. It is a region exclusive to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, parts of Oman, and the general Indochina area. It, like most Fire Types, is normally encountered in residential areas like neighborhoods or in dry/arid and warmer type climates.

Trivia

  1. Torkoal is tied with Slugma, Litwick, and Mega Camerupt for the lowest base Speed stat of all Fire-type Pokémon.
  2. Torkoal shares its category with Rolycoly, Carkol, and Coalossal. They are all known as the Coal Pokémon.
  3. Contrary to what its Pokédex entries claim, wild Torkoal can never be found in Oreburgh City's coal mine in Generation IV.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You now know about Torkoal, who resembles not just an orange tortoise but also a furnace or a kitchen stove with four openings within its shell. Additionally, its shell appears to be reminiscent of a lump of burning coal. Torkoal is a sturdy weather setter and appreciates having its STAB be super powerful to boot. Pair it with Grassy Terrain and watch it do rather well on your team.
