Making their first appearance in the first Pokemon game in Kanto, Weezing makes their debut as a solid Poison Pokemon in generation one. Though recently it has had somewhat of an update and its Galarian variant has an additional Fairy typing which further increases their viability in battle. However, the moves you give this Pokemon determine how effective it is in battle.

Pokedex Entry | Weezing loves the gases given off by rotted kitchen garbage. This Pokémon will find a dirty, unkempt house and make it its home. At night, when the people in the house are asleep, it will go through the trash. Weezing alternately shrinks and inflates its twin bodies to mix together toxic gases inside. The more the gases are mixed, the more powerful the toxins become. The Pokémon also becomes more putrid. |

Appearance
Weezing is a unique Pokemon and is not inspired by any normal animal you’d find, but rather inspired by toxins, gasses, and poisons. This Pokemon is spherical in form and has two heads, each one capable of puffing out noxious fumes. Both heads have sharp teeth, purple skin, and have a marking on their lower half that resembles a skull and crossbones: a sign you would normally see in poisons.
An Alolan Weezing, on the other hand, is not that different, while it has the same features, some aspects of this Pokemon are different from its Kano counterpart. A Galarian Weezing is grey in color, and the gas it exhausts can form into facial hair, along with weaning a long top hat like protrusion.
Behavior
Weezing is created when two Koffings fuse together to become one and this occurs when poisonous gasses combine and potentially takes several years to happen. Each head of Weezing contains a unique toxin and while it is potent by itself, when combined with the toxins from its other head, the result is extremely powerful. Weezing seeks out dirty areas to reside, feeding on toxic gases.
It’s Galarain counterpart is more useful as this variation actually cleaning the air around it by inhaling the toxic fumes.
Strengths and Weaknesses
With the right moves, Weezing can be a fairly adept Pokemon to use in battles. With a high Defense Stat, this Pokoemon can certainly take a hit, and return it in kind. However it trades this for a lower health pool, so be sure to keep an eye out for it. As a Poison type, Weezing is resistant against Fighting, Poison, Bug, Grass and Fairy type moves.. Just be sure to watch out for Ground and Psychic moves, as these can easily take Weezing out of battle.
Shiny Weezing
With it hard to locate in the wild, finding a Shiny Weezing is tricky as it is a tough Pokemon to track down. The main difference between a normal and Shiny Weezing is obvious, as Shiny Weezing’s body is now green and that’s the only major change. To get a Shiny Weezing of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild, hatch one from an egg or you could always find someone willing to trade one. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Weezing gains a starry animation when it enters a battle.
Galarian Weezing
In the Galar region, Weezing has a different Variation called Galarian Weezing. A Galarian Weezing has a different type of typing than its original predecessor as while Weezing was a Poison type, Galarian Weezingis now a Poison and Dark type Pokemon. This change allows it to have several new strategies that allow it to change up the game as Galarian Weezing is resistant to Poison, Grass, Ghost and Dark-type moves. Not only that, it is weak to only Ground types and also now immune to Psychic type moves.
Best moveset for Weezing
Sludge Bomb | Will-O-Wisp |
Toxic Spikes | Taunt |
This moveset is a fifty fifty mixup, half of the moveset is on damage and the other half focuses on throwing off your opponent with moves that will interrupt their plans. Sludge Bomb is a high damage move that has a chance to poison the target, Will-O-Wisp is the same only with the chance to burn while Toxic Spikes damages any incoming Pokemon on the enemy team when they swap, poisoning them. This move can be stacked up to two times and finally, Taunt prevents the opponent from using any status moves for three turns.
Best moveset for Alolan Weezing
Sludge Bomb | Will-O-Wisp |
Pain Split | Toxic |
This moveset is similar to the Kanto version of Weezing however it is more focused on damage. Pain split evenly distributes the HP between Weezing and the opponent Pokemon, useful when they're low in HP while Toxic is a Poison move that always poisons the target, useful for chipping away opponent health.
How to catch Weezing in Pokemon Go?
Weezing is an easy Pokemon to catch in Pokemon Go as all you need to do is walk for a while, and one should appear relatively close by. Since it’s a comparatively weaker Pokemon, you won’t have to worry about berries or using Great or Ultra balls. Although, if you are looking for a Weezing then search for a Koffing instead, as the base evolution tends to be a more common spawn as compared to its final evolution. You’ll need 50 Koffing candies to evolve into a Weezing.
Trivia
- Weezing’s smell depends on what it eats
- While Weezing usually has two heads, it is possible for them to have three heads, though it is very rare.
- Strange Steam is a move only able to be used by Galarian Weezing
