Yekai0904, an experienced Pokémon GO player from Hong Kong, has been competing in the Battle League since at least its fifth season. It was only a matter of time before this talented trainer made his debut on the big stage.

His excellent performance in the grand finals can be attributed to his excellently built team, complete with various coverage options to hit many of the Great League's highest threats. His team was particularly effective at countering the leads of his opponent, Inadequance, which allowed him to snowball many of the rounds played for the match.

What Pokemon did Yekai0904 use during the 2024 Pokemon GO World Championships?

Yekai0904's World Championship-winning team for Pokemon GO includes:

  • Shadow Quagsire - Mud shot, Aqua Tail, and Stone Edge
  • Altaria - Dragon Breath, Sky Attack, Moonblast
  • Skarmory - Steel Wing, Brave Bird, Sky Attack
  • Annihilape - Counter, Night Slash, Shadow Ball
  • Charjabug - Volt Switch, Discharge, x-Scissor
  • Lickitung - Lick, Power Whip, Body Slam

A popular choice in the Great League, Shadow Quagsire is a Water and Ground-type, typically used for its high stamina. The Shadow Boost would therefore have very little downside for Quagsire, allowing it to instead be built for damage. Yekai0904's Shadow Quagsire's wide array of coverage allowed it to hit its opponents with devastating force.

Yekai0904's Lickitung ended up being quite the valuable asset in this particular match against Inadequance due to his use of Origin Forme Giratina. Lickitung's pure Normal typing allowed it to completely wall off Inadequance's Giratina as it only had Ghost-type moves, which deal minimal damage to Normal-types. Lickitung also had access to the Ghost-type move, Lick, which deals super-effective damage against Giratina.

Lickitung's access to Power Whip also made it a vital member of the team when tasked with dealing with Poliwrath and Lanturn, two members of Inadequance's team during the grand finals. Poliwrath was also Inadequance's only creature with a Fighting-type attack, which is the only element that hits Lickitung for super-effective damage.
