Fortunately for players, there will be a Free Timed Research that will provide them with Meteorite. Since Rayquaza does not only rely on Mega Energy for its Mega Evolution, Meteorite plays a crucial role and is extremely sought after.

Pokemon GO Mega Rayquaza August 2024 raid will have Free Timed Research for Meteorite

Mega Rayquaza raids return to Pokemon GO on August 3, 2024, as a special makeup event for the glitches and shortcomings during the last raid in June. This Pocket Monster is a special case since Mega Energy is not its only requirement for Mega Evolution.

To Mega Evolve Rayquaza, you will have to teach it a special move Dragon Ascent, that can only be taught to Rayquaza using Meteorites. This exclusive criteria makes Meteorite a crucial and rare item as well, and it cannot be obtained normally in the game.

Luckily, Niantic is providing Free Timed Research for all players that will allow everyone to get their hands on the precious Meteorite.

How to obtain Meteorite to Mega Evolve Rayquaza in Pokemon GO

There are a few ways to obtain Meteorite in Pokemon GO, but not all of them are reliable:

• Free Timed Research: The Free Timed Research will grant Meteorite to all players. This means that anyone taking part in the event will be able to obtain at least one Meteorite and will be able to Mega Evolve at least one of their Rayquaza.
• Mega Rayquaza Raids: The last Mega Rayquaza Elite Raid in June 2024 had an extremely rare chance of dropping Meteorite as a Raid Reward with 1-in-50 odds. It is plausible to believe the Raids in August will have the same mechanic.

It is currently unknown whether there will be a paid research to obtain more Meteorite during the August 2024 Mega Rayquaza special raids.

How to use Meteorite to teach Dragon Ascent to Rayquaza

Dragon Ascent is a Charged Attack that deals 150 base damage for a cost of 70 energy. Unlike most other Pokemon who use an Elite Charged Attack TM to learn exclusive moves, Rayquaza needs Meteorite to learn its signature move Dragon Ascent.

Meteorite is an item that you can find in your item bag after you have obtained it from the Free Timed Research. Meteorite can be used to teach Dragon Ascent to Rayquaza only, and you cannot use it to teach this move to any other critter.

You can teach Dragon Ascent to Rayquaza in Pokemon GO by following these steps:

• Open your Item Bag and locate the Meteorite.
• Select it to open a list of all the Pokemon in your collection.
• Select the Rayquaza you want to teach this move to.
• Confirm your choice and teach your Rayquaza its special move Dragon Ascent.

Note that Rayquaza will forget any other Charged Attack it already knew when you are teaching it Dragon Ascent.
