Appearance
Yamask is a rather simple pokemon and it has a mostly solid color palette. Aside from its mask, which has a golden shine to it, Yamask’s spirit seems to be attached to the mask and thus forms a solid black form around it. The only shift to be found is in it’s beady red eyes.
Behavior
Yamask are known to have been humans at one point in their lives but for one reason or another, after the human being passed on, they become spirits that forever carry a golden mask. The mask is said to remind them of who they once were and thus they are very protective of their mask. It often looks at it until it cries and they become enraged whenever someone tries to steal it. If someone attempts to put on Yamask’s mask, they’ll find themselves possessed by the Pokemon.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Due to its overall lackluster stats, it’s encouraged to evolve Yamask to reach its true potential but if not, then play passively. It’s highest stats are slotted in defense and thus playing passively is your best bet when using Yamask in battles. As a ghost type, it excels in fights against other Normal types and Fighting types, but be wary when facing off against Pokemon that are Ghost and Dark, as they take double the normal damage against them..
Galarian Yamask
A Galarian Yamask is quite different from its Unovian counterpart. Instead of carrying around a mask, this Yamask carries a tablet in it’s place. It is said that a Galarian Yamask is created when a vengeful spirit comes across this unique tablet but the Galarian Yamask looks similar to a Yamask. However, their eyes are purple instead of red and when it comes time to evolve, a Galarian Yamask evolves into a Runerigus instead of the typical Cofagrigus.
Shiny Yamask
With it hard to find in the wild, a Shiny Yamask is tricky to track down. The shiny version differs from its original counterpart vastly as it has a silver mask, a dark blue body and yellow eyes. To get a Shiny Yamask on your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild or hatch one from an egg. If not that, then you’ll need to find someone willing to trade one.
Best moveset for Yamask
Will-O-Wisp | Hex |
Knock Off | Toxic Spikes |
This moveset emphasizes trapping and taking advantage of status effects. The move Toxic Spikes poison every Pokemon on your opponents team and Hex doubles in power should the opponent have a status effect. Will-O-Wisp burns your opponent and Knock Off adds in half damage if your opponent is holding onto something with the added benefit of removing it from their hands.
How to catch Yamask in Pokemon Go?
As of the moment it doesn’t seem like Yamask can be caught in the wild but instead, Yamask and it’s Galarain counterpart can only be caught when certain Research Tasks are done. As a reward for doing them you’ll have a random Pokemon encounter and Yamask may be one of them. Be cautious because it’s not a guaranteed catch and thus bring your best equipment if you really want to catch this Pokemon.
