Taco Bell, like other fast food chains, has discontinued some of its favorite menu items over the years while adding new recipes that have induced nostalgia for the old ones.

Customers have continued to lobby for the return of select menu items, and once in a while, the California-based fast food chain obliges and re-launches some fan favorites for a limited time.

2024 has seen the grand return of the Tostada—the Tostada Shell layered with beans, red sauce, lettuce, and shredded cheese, the Green Sauce Burrito, and other classic menu items. The list below explores some of the discontinued menu items that made a grand return in 2024.

The Tostada, Meximelt, and other Taco Bell favorites that made it back to the menu in 2024

1) The Tostada

The fan-favorite Tostada made a special appearance in October 2024 after it was removed from the menu in 2020. The crispy Tostada shell was part of Taco Bell’s OG menu in 1962. It consists of a Tostada shell layered with refried beans, tangy red sauce, crispy lettuce, and shredded cheese.

More than a few hearts were broken when the Tostada was discontinued after the food chain decided to streamline its menu due to the pandemic.

Several homemade recipes have been popping up over the years as fans tried to recreate the tasty treat. The Tostada is sold for $1.99 on Tacobell.com although the price may vary in different markets.

2) The Meximelt

The Meximelt made a comeback in October 2024 and foodies were allowed to try out the nostalgic menu of the ‘80s. The Meximelt, which consists of a tortilla packed with melted beef, pico de gallo, cheddar, a blend of mozzarella, and Monterey Jack cheese, was discontinued in 2018.

The Meximelt appeared on the food chain’s decades menu and is sold for $2.99. The highly anticipated menu item was exclusively offered in three stores in Southern California in August 2024 before it was made available nationwide in October.

3) The Green Sauce Burrito

The Chili Cheese Burrito from Taco Bell made a grand return to the restaurant’s menu in October 2024. Although the popular burritos were removed from most Taco Bell locations’ menus in the 1990s, some restaurants continued offering the beloved menu staples.

The Chili Cheese Burrito features seasoned beef chili with melty shredded cheddar, refried beans, crunchy onions, and green sauce wrapped in a Tortilla.

Fans were excited to learn about the return of the burritos alongside other items in decades menu. It is priced at $2.19.

4) The Beef Gordita Supreme

The Beef Gordita Supreme was introduced in 1998 and became an instant hit. It disappeared from the restaurant’s menu in 2001 and was re-released in October 2024, allowing customers to enjoy a blast from the past.

The Taco Bell treat is essentially a flatbread wrapped over seasoned beef, reduced-fat sour cream, diced tomatoes, crisp lettuce, and a three-cheese blend of mozzarella, Monterey Jack, and cheddar.

You can purchase the Beef Gordita Supreme for $2.99 by placing an order on the app or visiting the location nearest to you.

5) The Caramel Apple Empanada

The Caramel Apple Empanada was the fifth and final item to be re-launched on the Decades menu. In the summer of 2019, the Caramel Apple Empanada was removed from the fast food chain’s menu.

The Caramel Apple Empanada was introduced in the early 2000s and became popular due to its recipe consisting of crispy cinnamon sugar-coated fried pastry filled with soft apples and creamy caramel.

It was later replaced by the Cinnabon Delights. The Caramel Apple Empanada was made available for a limited period starting from November 2024 and sold for $2.99.

Word on the streets is that these revived menu items are only available for a limited period.
