Ryōhei Arisu aka Alice: The lead of the series is a video game-obsessed man who is close friends with Chota Segawa and Daikichi Karube. Arisu loves to hang out with his friends and one day he and his two friends end up in Borderland. During his time in Borderland, he teams up with the female lead, Yuzuha Usagi, and tackles all the deadly games together. Later he develops romantic feelings for Usagi.
Yuzuha Usagi: She is the female lead of the series and also Arisu's romantic interest. Just like Arisu and his friends, Usagi also one day ended up being transported to the Borderland shortly after the death of her father. Before Borderland happened, Usagi was a mountain climber.
Chota Segawa: He was best friends with Arisu and Karube who ended up with them in Borderland. Chota was a highly religious IT technician. In season one, Chota burns his leg severely. He dies in episode 3 of season one although Chota makes his appearances in season 2 through flashbacks.
Daikichi Karube: He is a close friend of Arisu and Chota who end up with them in Borderland. Just like Chota he also dies in episode three of season one. He worked as a bartender before ending up in Borderland. Karube appears in season 2 through flashbacks.
Shuntaro Chishiya: Another borderland player who is pretty mysterious, quiet, and a sly player. He teams up with Kuina to steal Hatter's deck of cards, believing that the full deck is the only ticket to get out of the Borderland. As the series continues, Chishiya gains interest in Arisu and Usagi and helps them during a deadly game. Before Borderland, Chishiya was a medical student.
Ann Rizuna: She is an executive member of the beach who attempts to win the difficult game through rational thinking. Previously, she was a forensic scientist for the police. Later in the series she and Arisu and his group become friends.
Takeru Danma aka the Hatter: He is the leader and the founder of "the beach". For the unversed, the beach is a hotel inhabited by dozens of players. His main goal is to collect all the playing cards given to players for winning games. He dies in season one.
Suguru Niragi: The dangerous member of the beach who is known for his aggressive behavior. He has bad blood with Arisu and Usagi and is a part of "the Militants". Before Borderland, Niragi was often bullied by students at his high school.
Hiraki Kuina: Close friend of Chishiya who helps him to steal the whole deck of cards from Hatter. She was a former clothing shop clerk before ending up in Borderland.
Morizono Aguni: He is Hatter's best friend, a strong fighter, and the leader of a violent group called "the militants" at the beach.
Mira Kano: A mysterious woman and an executive member of the beach. In season two it is revealed that she is the queen of hearts who Arisu and Usagi have to defeat in Borderland.
