Ana de Armas has finally received her first-ever Oscar nomination for best actress for her film Blonde. This marks her as the first Cuban woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

A day after the film Blonde was brutally thrashed by Razzies and was called out as the worst movie of the year, Ana de Armas got nominated for the category of best actress for her performance as Marylin Monroe in Blonde. Armas has lately been outperforming herself in many of her movies. Not just Blonde, Armas has also received the Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress and Satellite Award nomination for Best Actress in Motion Picture for the movie Knives Out. Coming back to Blonde, other than the Academy Award, Armas has also been nominated for the GoldenScreen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, and AACTA International Award for Best Actress for Blonde.

Ana de Armas is a Cuban and Spanish actress. She was born on 30 April 1988 and first began her career by starring in a leading role in the romantic drama Una rosa de Francia. Then she bagged her next big project in Madrid. Armas was a cast member of the popular drama El internado for six seasons from 2007 to 2010.

Blonde is a 2022 American biographical psychological drama film that is a fictionalized take on the life and career of American actress Marilyn Monroe, Ana de Armas played the titular role of Marilyn Monroe and received heavy praise for her performance as the late actress. The film was released on September 16, 2022, and is now available on Netflix too. Blonde was directed by Andrew Dominik. When the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2022, de Armas received a 14-minute standing ovation for her interpretation.

According to De Armas, it took her four months to prepare herself to play Marilyn Monroe. She told Variety, “That [Blonde] wrapped on a Friday, and I was shooting Bond the next Monday." She added, “I don’t think anyone would choose two days, spending half in an airplane, as time off between films, but sometimes good things happen.”
