More about Bear Grylls's colorful career
Bear Grylls began his career as a member of the 21 SAS (R) in the British Army Reserve, where he served from 1994 to 1997. He eventually had to leave due to a back injury caused by a parachute failure while deployed in Kenya. The adventurer elaborated on the accident in an interview with The Guardian on February 16, 2021.
"I should have cut the main parachute and gone to the reserve, but thought there was time to resolve the problem. I was within a whisker of not being able to walk again. In those braces, in that military rehab place, I thought that was it."
The adventurer continued:
"So I have a gratitude for life. I feel I’ve been given a second chance. What life asks of me is to live it with positivity and boldness."
Following his discharge from the military, Bear Grylls began his adventure career, carrying out several major expeditions, including climbing Mount Everest, the North West Passage crossing, the North Atlantic crossing, and others. During this time, the adventurer also hosted his most successful show to date, Man vs. Wild, which premiered in 2006.
The show featured Grylls showing viewers how to survive inhospitable places, and it continued for seven seasons, ending on November 29, 2011. The show briefly returned for several special episodes in India, featuring Ajay Devgan, Vicky Kaushal, and Ranveer Singh.
Aside from his career, the adventurer has also been involved with charities such as Princes' Trust and Global Angels, which provide support to children. Bear Grylls was awarded the Officer of the British Empire in 2019 for his service to youth, media, and charity, respectively.
