Beat Shazam game format: 3 teams of 2 contestants each battle it out for $1 million
Fox's description of Beat Shazam reads:
"BEAT SHAZAM is an interactive game show that pits teams of two against the clock and each other, as they attempt to identify the biggest hit songs of all time. In the end, the team with the most money banked will outlast the competition and go against Shazam, the world’s most popular song identification app, for the chance to win $1 million. Over the course of its four previous seasons, the show has given away more than $10 million."
Beat Shazam is a one-of-a-kind musical competition show where three teams of two members each try to guess different songs with the help of tunes. In the four rounds of the game, the teammates try to earn as much money as possible by identifying the correct song from the given options.
In season 4 and 5, the first four songs of round one were worth $1000 and the fast track was worth $2000.
In round two, the first three songs were worth $2000 while the fast track one was worth $4000. In the third round, the first three songs helped the contestants win $4000 each while the Fast Track’s reward prize was $8000. In the fourth round, the first three songs’ prize money was $8000 and the fast track was worth $16,000.
The winning team moves on to the fifth round, where they must name at least six songs before the Shazam application identifies them. The application uses Billboard Hot 100 music chart to cite the song titles. The team which defeats Shazam, wins the grand prize of $1,000,000.
Beat Shazam has been nominated for the Teen Choice Awards two times under the Choice Summer TV Show. Until now, only three teams have successfully defeated the app and won $1,000,000 grand prize:
- Christina Porcelli and Steve Lester
- Donna Natosi and Ryan Walton
- Brothers Aaron and Martin Smith
Fans can also play the game along with the audience on the Shazam application on their phones. Currently, the app has been downloaded more than 1 billion times.
