Stand-up comedian, actor, and podcaster Andrew Schulz has responded to Kendrick Lamar after the latter took shots at the likes of him on his single, Wacced Out Murals, from the latest surprise album, GNX.
“Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman, that’s law,” K-Dot rapped in the song.
While he didn’t name anyone in particular, many speculated the rapper was hinting at Andrew Schulz, who infamously joked about Black women on his podcast, Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant with Akaash Singh, earlier this year.
Now, amid Wacced Out Murals’ release, Schulz has resorted to sarcasm while responding to Kendrick Lamar.
“Rappers are telling comedians we need to be more respectful to women, so we gotta really, we gotta sit back and reflect. Nobody has respected women more, through art, than rappers,” Andrew mocked. “So, I completely understand how a rapper could look at a comedian telling a joke and be like, ‘Yo y’all need to switch that sh*t up. How dare y’all keep saying your wives are annoying?’”
Later, he derisively rapped his own version of lyrics, saying, “B*tches ain’t nothing but h*es and tricks I beat my b*tch with a stick,” alluding to the rumor that Kendrick Lamar beat his partner, Whitney Alford. Previously, K-Dot’s hip-hop rival Drake made similar allegations in his diss track, The Heart Part 6.
In the wake of Andrew Schulz’s response to the Compton rapper, the internet is having diverse reactions. For instance, Instagram user @chatn**ga commented on DJ Akademiks’ post on the same by writing:
Many people joined the conversation and shared similar reactions on X.
“All imma say is KBots better leave @andrewschulz alone. This was only the warm up, they took it very easy,” a person wrote.
“He cooked that hypocrite LOL,” one person wrote.
“Andrew comes from the school of Patriece O'Neal. He's not going back on a joke lol,” wrote another.
Others weighed in and defended the Not Like Us rapper while calling out Schulz.
“Andrew Schulz, who constantly says society is way too sensitive to artistic expression in regards to comedy, made a 10 min rant about a single bar, a different form of artistic expression, Kendrick made in reference to him. Do people not even hide they are frauds anymore?” a netizen asked.
“‘Anti-woke’ comedians are the most unfunny people there are cos they’re incredibly lazy. Andrew Schulz roping Kendrick Lamar in with rappers who talk about women in derogatory ways is maybe the dumbest argument he could have had. His racist a** thinks all rap music is the same,” another netizen wrote.
“This Andrew Schulz reply to Kendrick is nuts and also why I never enjoyed a single second of his comedy,” an individual wrote.
“The fact that he responded and K-Dot mentioned no names says a lot,” wrote another.
Exploring Andrew Schulz's response to Kendrick Lamar
In his podcast’s latest episode, Andrew Schulz said,
"What a time to be alive where rappers gotta talk about comedians for clout.”
He also mocked K-Dot by saying he was “welcome,” asking, “How many views did I give him?”
Schulz also mocked K-Dot’s use of double-negative in the concerned lyric and joked about having inappropriate relations with the rapper. He claimed that if they were ever in a jail cell together,
"I would make love to him and there's nothing he could do about it. Just Kendrick Lamar. I would make love to him and the only thing he could do is decide if it's consensual or not."
Meanwhile, Schulz supported his co-host Akaash Singh when he pointed out Kendrick’s past collaboration with Chris Brown, hinting at the latter’s history of alleged abuse against women. Singh also mentioned that K-Dot opposed Spotify's censorship of convicted s*x offender R. Kelly’s music.
However, the second claim is inaccurate as it was not the PGLang founder but TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith who threatened to pull music from the music streaming platform. Contrary to the rumors, he didn’t threaten in defense of any artist but rather due to the censorship of Spotify, as per their Hate Content & Hateful Conduct Policy.
Before his podcast response, Andrew even shared with DJ Akademiks, “Is this guy too woke to understand a joke?” in reference to K-Dot’s Wacced Out Murals lyric.
What did Andrew Schulz say about Black women?
During a July episode of his podcast, Andrew Schulz made remarks about various ethnic communities. One such came after his guests and British podcasters James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu explained to him the “Black girlfriend effect.” It refers to fashion changes a non-Black man makes after finding a Black girlfriend, such as a faded haircut and a beard.
"They shave their hair because they start losing it because he's so stressed to be around this Black girl complaining all the time. They grow their beard because they need a cushion when they get slapped. I think the 'Black girlfriend effect,' it might be a protective instinct," Andrew replied.
While the guests, Duncan and Dawodu, both Black men, later apologized for laughing at Andrew’s jokes and not defending women from their ethnic community, the comedian refused to back down. The Shxtsngigs hosts explained how their reaction was based on their “fight or flight response.”
"We're sorry. For me, it's one of them ones where you don't realize that, when you're part of a community, you don't realize you can hurt your own community. We don't condone, we don't appease that behavior. We don't rate it and we don't want you guys to think we were sat in that room rating what was going on,” they shared.
On the other hand, Schulz, during a later episode of his podcast, said,
"With that joke about Black women—nothing. The fight or flight thing wasn't really there afterward."
Notably, earlier this year, Andrew Schulz also went on record to say how Kendrick Lamar would never be able to “top” Drake, alluding to the rappers’ feud. The comment was made on his other podcast, Brilliant Idiots.
