During an interview for Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Cate Blanchett explains the importance of her character and how it acts as a turning point for Leonardo DiCaprio's character. She said “You have to say, 'What's your function?' So, that was my first kind of port of call, and, you know, obviously in Don't Look Up it's to express just how far Leo's character, Randall, has gone from the epicenter of who he is, that he's ended up with someone like my character.”

During an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Cate Blanchett revealed that the filming of Don't Look Up felt so real that it started to seem more like a documentary. She said, "That's the thing. Adam wrote this a couple of years before the pandemic, and every second that we're on set, it becomes less and less like a satire and more and more like a documentary," Blanchett said. "Even when he was in post, there was a comet that was in the earth's orbit that was deflected, I don't know, by the Chinese, by the Russians, by chance. You know, all of these things happening."
Of her part in the film, she added, "I've got a really beautiful little nugget of a role-playing an entertainment news host, which was very fun. But, you know, I guess that we all wanted to be part of it."
