Chicago P.D. has been renewed for yet another season, and fans are absolutely thrilled to see their favorite characters reprise their roles once again. After enjoying a successful 10-season run on television, the show still manages to deliver in terms of new and engrossing storylines and intriguing new characters.
While the show was renewed in April for an eleventh season, the official release date for the same hasn't been released yet. As per NBC Insider, the show is rumored to release in Fall 2023.
A spinoff of Chicago Fire, the show entails the story of the patrol officers and the Intelligence Unit of the 21st District as they embark on their police careers and crack the biggest cases in the country. The synopsis of the show, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads:
"Chicago P.D.'s Intelligence Unit, led by Sgt. Hank Voight, investigates the city's most formidable offenses -- drug trafficking, organized crime, high-profile murders and other large-scale felonies."
It continues:
"The squad -- made up of Voight, Trudy Platt, Kim Burgess, Adam Ruzek, Kevin Atwater, Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton -- is committed to protecting the city and seeking truth, but in the midst of a changing criminal justice system, the team struggles to maintain peace in the community. Voight must learn to adapt to a shifting sociopolitical climate and embrace new tactics to crack down on crime in the city he loves."
Chicago P.D. is host to an incredibly talented cast, with Jason Beghe in the lead role of Sergeant Henry "Hank" Voight, and was created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead.
Chicago P.D. season 11: How will Jay Halstead's departure impact the upcoming season?
The storylines for season 11 of the police drama series are still unknown, as the season finale for season 10 is yet to premiere on May 24, 2023. However, the finale hasn't stopped fans from speculating on the potential storylines the upcoming installment of the show could explore.
The biggest shock that the viewers encountered this season was the departure of the fan-favorite character, Jay Halstead, to Bolivia. The character's dynamic with Tracy Spiridakos' Detective Upton has been hailed by fans as one of the best love stories on television ever, and since season 10 did not elaborate on the duo's dynamic in the current season, people have speculated that season 11 will mainly focus on the impact of Halstead's departure on the other characters.
People are particularly interested in seeing how the show manages to explore Upton's character. In an interview with Variety, Tracy Spiridakos, who plays Upton, stated that Halstead's departure will have a major impact on her character, and she's very excited to see how her character is handled going forward in the show. She commented:
"We're still in the change. She finds out that he's extended his stay and has that breakdown moment of having this hope and then all of a sudden, that's gone. It's the first time we see her break down since he's left, since their goodbye. I think there's going to be some changes for her over the next little while."
Another storyline that viewers hope to see in the upcoming season of Chicago P.D. is that of Adam and Kim. Both the characters were seen rekindling their romance in the current season, and now that they have settled into consciously uncoupled co-parenting, fans are interested to see how this particular angle of the show pans out.
