Kamala Harris named governor of Minnesota Tim Walz her VP pick on August 6, 2024, for the 2024 Presidential elections, which are about to take place in November. Formerly a geography teacher, Walz ran for office for the first time in 2006 in a Republican-leaning congressional district.

Walz won the governorship in Minnesota in 2018 and 2022. The state saw multiple legislative reforms, such as abortion protections, universal school meals, and gun control measures.

Internet users reacted to Kamala Harris choosing Tim Walz as her running mate under a post on X (formerly Twitter) highlighting Walz's accomplishments in the political sphere. In her tweet announcing Tim Walz as her running mate, Kamala Harris mentioned that she is proud to have asked the Minnesota governor to be her Vice President pick. Harris stated:

“As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his. It's great to have him on the team,”

Additionally, Walz's selection as Harris' running mate was also announced to Democratic party supporters via text message, and an update was made on Kamala Harris' campaign website stating that they were "ready to win" with Walz.

Apart from his work as Minnesota's governor, Tim Walz made headlines owing to his comment on Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance. On July 23, 2024, Walz made an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe and commented on how Democrats can make political inroads in deep-red rural regions:
