Recently, a rumor surfaced online that Canadian reality TV personality Drew Scott has passed away. The claim was first made by the YouTube channel DOOL Dispatch on November 20.
“At 46, ‘Rest in Peace’ Drew Scott. He will forever be in the hearts of millions of fans,” the post was captioned.
The 20-minute video also garnered online traction earning 16,693 views at the time of writing. It began by claiming how “in the early hours of November 19, 2024, the world received the heartbreaking news of Drew Scott’s tragic passing.”
It further continued:
“Drew, a beloved television personality, real estate expert, and co-star of the immensely popular show ‘Property Brothers’ lost his life in a fatal car accident that occurred in Ontario.”
However, the now-viral rumor has turned out to be fake. No announcement from Drew Scott’s family, friends, or the media has surfaced confirming the news of his death. Not only that but as recently as two hours ago, the Brother vs Brother star posted a glimpse of November 21’s Los Angeles Lakers vs Orlando Magic game at the Crypto.com Arena in LA on his Instagram.
Drew Scott is alive and well
Earlier this week, the claim that Drew Scott has died circulated online, starting with YouTube. The viral video featured an image of him alongside that of a closed casket being carried by mourning women.
It further claimed that on Tuesday morning around 3 am, the reality TV star was reportedly driving home alone via Riverside Drive when his car allegedly collided with a truck near an intersection. The clip alleged that for several minutes Scott was trapped unconscious and in a critical condition inside the mangled vehicle. However, he was purportedly rescued by the emergency services and rushed to the nearby hospital.
According to the DOOL Dispatch video, Scott allegedly had a serious head injury and other wounds throughout his body and seemingly succumbed to them. Elsewhere, it also claimed that Drew’s twin brother Jonathan, the co-host of Property Brothers, reportedly issued a public statement expressing his “profound grief.”
Fortunately, all of the above-mentioned claims have turned out to be fabricated and unfounded, seemingly for virality and sensationalism.
No official or verifiable reports about Drew Scott’s alleged demise have emerged, nor has his sibling shared a statement regarding the same. Moreover, contrary to the claims in the video that fans, colleagues, and industry insiders have sent tributes for the father of two on social media, no such messages have surfaced. Neither Drew’s wife Linda Phan nor his employer HGTV Canada has issued any similar statements regarding his alleged death, unlike the claims in the viral video.
Notably, in the video description, the text, “Altered or synthetic content: Sound or visuals were significantly edited or digitally generated,” also appeared, further making the rumor inauthentic.
Meanwhile, the page DOOL Dispatch is known for posting satirical or parodical content, especially fake news related to celebrity demises and funerals. For instance, in the last 24 hours, the channel has claimed that A-listers including actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck, musician and media personality Ozzy Osborne, and former professional boxer Mike Tyson have all passed away – none of which is true.
Drew and Jonathan Scott’s latest series, Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers premiered on November 13 on HGTV, the preview of which was shared by the former on his Instagram less than 12 hours ago.
Drew was active on social media a couple of hours ago and shared a Story on the platform from a basketball match, with the text, “Teamwork makes the dream work” written on it. He also posted a reel with his brother on November 19, captioned, “We’re a packaged deal.” In it, the duo were showing their shooting antics with their followers from the sets of the new series.
