Jimmy did not die in Yellowstone; instead, he was sent to the 6666 ranch in Texas as punishment for breaking a promise to John Dutton.

Since Yellowstone season 1, there has been a lot of violence and an increase in tension, making it seem like everyone has been in danger at some point. Although Jimmy didn't pass away in Yellowstone, his journey through the seasons hasn't been simple. After breaking a promise he'd made to John Dutton, ranch hand Jimmy Hurdstrom (portrayed by Jefferson White) sustained serious injuries in the Yellowstone season 3 finale.

After an incident, Jimmy had vowed to never participate in a rodeo again, but he just couldn't help himself. Unfortunately for him, this resulted in yet another terrible incident. This happened in the season 3 finale, leaving his future uncertain and hanging in the balance going into season 4.

In the first episode of season 4, he was discovered unconscious and taken to the hospital, where it was discovered that he had multiple fractures. He was eventually able to leave the hospital after starting to recover, but not before John confronted him about breaking his promise. Jimmy isn't about to be kicked out, though, and the firm but fair patriarch instead adopts a more considerate stance. Jimmy is transferred to the 6666 in Texas so he can live out his dream of competing in rodeos.

Why did Jimmy leave Yellowstone?

Jimmy breached a vow to John Dutton, and thus he was not permitted to return to Yellowstone. John did not send Jimmy out as a form of punishment, though; rather, he did it so that Jimmy might receive a chance to compete in rodeos.

Jimmy's fate remained unknown to viewers at the end of the third season. In spite of prior injuries, he attempted to return to the rodeo in the epilogue. The incident ended with him lying unconscious after being bucked off a horse. Jimmy was once again unresponsive as the fourth season premiere began, leaving viewers to wonder if he was still alive or not. The Dutton family thwarted an assassination attempt as chaos broke out at the ranch.

The series then went back in time to 1893 as a flashback, when a Dutton ancestor granted permission to some Native Americans to bury a family member on their land. Returning to the slightly future present, a recently recovered John Dutton is wheeled out of the hospital, past the physical therapy area.

Jimmy is receiving physical therapy in the room. Jimmy returns to Yellowstone after being discharged from the hospital to discover that he is no longer welcome there. John sends Jimmy on the road to the 6666 ranch in Texas, and Jimmy leaves with Emily, portrayed by Kathryn Kelly.

Could Jimmy return to Yellowstone?

It would be all too simple to think that Jimmy's appearance on the popular show would come to an end when he and Emily left at the conclusion of Yellowstone season 4, but it turns out that this wasn't the case. Jefferson White and Kathryn Kelly have already been confirmed as cast members for Yellowstone season 5, indicating that Jimmy and Emily may still appear in future episodes.

However, despite this, Jimmy hasn't been spotted back with the Duttons thus far in the most recent season, which may cause some fans to become a little confused, but season five isn’t concluded yet.

However, Jefferson might have just given away a crucial tip regarding Jimmy's trip back to Yellowstone in the drama's official podcast. According to Express.co.uk, he seemed to imply that his scenes don't occur where the major events occur.

As he discussed trying to keep any potential Yellowstone season 5 spoilers under wraps, he said, "Never setting foot in Montana one time this whole season, it really makes it a lot easier. So it’s been a lot easier to keep a handle on the spoilers when Jimmy is, uh, I didn’t see it go down."

After reading these comments, it seems possible that Jimmy will make a cameo appearance in Yellowstone season 5, but only in scenes that are shot at the 6666 Ranch, saving Jefferson the trip to Montana to film the new season. But even if Jimmy only appears briefly in Yellowstone season 5, there's a chance that he'll appear more frequently in the overall Yellowstone series.
