Yes, Primrose Everdeen dies in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.
Played by Willow Shields, Primrose Everdeen was one of the main protagonists of The Hunger Games film franchise. Hunger Games fans out there have time and again showered love over Katniss Everdeen’s sister Primrose and still find it difficult to accept that the character was killed in the end. While author Suzanne Collins described the details of Primrose Everdeen’s unfortunate and gruesome death in the book, the same was skipped from the movie in The Mockingjay Part 2.
The Hunger Games is a dystopian adventure film franchise based on the novels of the same name by author Suzanne Collins. The four films were directed by American director Gary Ross, who also co-wrote the screenplay of the film with Collins. The first film of the franchise was released on March 23, 2012, and opened to positive reviews by the fans of the books. The first part (The Hunger Games) was followed by a second film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (2014), and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (2015).
How did Primrose Everdeen die?
Along with fellow medics, Primrose Everdeen died due to the bombing that took place in the Capitol, during Mockingjay Part 2’s events. The character who is known for being a healer started out as a side-character in the first two films, but as the story reached out to the Mockingjay events, Katniss Everdeen’s sister Primrose had exceptional character development and was seen as one of the main characters in the film. In Mockingjay Part 2, Primrose Everdeen who had not turned 14, was allowed to go to the Capitol as a nurse with other medics to provide healing to the injured.
After the younger Everdeen witnessed the first explosion that was caused by the hovercraft dropping parachutes during the final battle and how it injured the Capitol children that were barricaded at President Snow's mansion, the character ran with other 13 medics to aid the injured. While healing the injured, she hears her elder sister Katniss call out to her and turns to see her sister running toward her. However, before Katniss could reach out to her younger sister and pull her to safety, the second wave of bombs exploded, killing Primrose and the other medics instantly.
Who made the bomb that killed Primrose Everdeen?
Gale Hawthorne and Beetee Latier were the ones who developed the bomb that was planted outside President Snow’s mansion. Although Gale Hawthorne shared a good bond with the Everdeens and had no intention to kill Katniss’ younger sister, Primrose, Hawthorne ended up becoming an indirect reason for Primrose’s demise.
It was President Alma Coin who made the final call that the parachute bombs be used in the offensive on the Capitol as she saw Katniss’ loyalty wavering. To make sure this does not happen, Coin played this foul strategy in a way that looked as if the attack was from the Capitol itself.
