"Donald Trump shows me what's politically possible" — Charlamagne Tha God appreciates president-elect over his Gulf of Mexico comments

On January 8, 2025, host of the Breakfast Club podcast, Charlamagne Tha God appreciated Trump's comment on the Gulf of Mexico. During a press conference on January 7, 2025, the President-elect said that he was going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Commenting on Trump's announcement, Charlamagne Tha God said:

"Donald Trump shows me what’s politically possible. Trump shows me what presidents can do if they want to do it. Donald Trump shows me what can be said if you are willing to say it. It’s not about what can be done, it’s about who has the political will to do it."

Charlamagne continued that he doesn't want to "hear a peep from Democrats" about anything until they speak what is on their mind with respect to the country and the world.

The American radio host added that Trump doesn't care if what he says sounds ridiculous or if it makes sense. He said, "It’s no political correctness whatsoever."

During the press conference on January 7, 2025, Trump expressed his intent to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, stating that it sounded like a beautiful name and was appropriate.

"Donald Trump speaks to people’s grievances better than Democrats do" - Charlamagne Tha God comments on President-elect's win

After the US Presidential election results were announced on November 5, 2024, Charlamagne Tha God commented on why he thinks Trump won over Harris in an episode of The Breakfast Club on November 6, 2024. Targeting Harris' party, Charlamagne said:

“I know today Democrats will be looking for someone to blame. Let me be the first to tell you, it’s not just one thing. I personally feel like Donald Trump speaks to people’s grievances better than Democrats do.”

He said that he is aware of people talking about misinformation and dumbing down of society, however, they don't need to be intelligent to know they can't pay their bills or afford groceries.

The radio host added that "millions of Americans, tens of millions of Americans" felt financially better when the President-elect was in office.

Further defending Trump's win in the Presidential elections, Charlamagne Tha God said that it wasn't fair to attribute the President-elect's win to sexism, anti-Semitism, racism, and homophobia.

He said that while Trump "tapped into all of the worst things America has ever had to offer", many voters agreed to his perspective and voted for him because of the same.

The radio host mentioned that he believes people voted for him because they want to feel safe and want financial stability as well.

Additionally, in another podcast episode on November 14, 2024, Charlamagne addressed the transition meeting held by Joe Biden for Trump on November 13, 2024.

The radio host questioned if people found it strange that since Trump had won the election, Biden wasn't calling him a fascist or a threat to democracy.

Expressing his theory on how Biden and Harris' comments dubbing the President-elect a threat to democracy could have been solely politics, Charlamagne Tha God said:

“I would think that, you know, if you really believe that, then somebody’s speech would be about how America effed up and how things are about to be really bad. It just makes you wonder how much of it did they really believe, or how much of it was just politics. That’s all.”

While Charlamagne initially supported Kamala Harris, his transition to actively supporting Trump has been visible. In October 2024, Charlamagne also interviewed Harris, and the interview showcased the radio host pressing Harris on things she did wrong at the border.
