Earlier this year, Drake made a social media post about Solange, which has now come under scrutiny amid the lawsuit against Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter. The Toronto rapper took to his Instagram Story on October 7 and shared a picture of Solange, which was taken after her infamous altercation with Jay-Z in 2014.
Back then, surveillance footage went viral that showed Solange and Carter arguing inside an elevator before the former hit, slapped, kicked, and pushed the latter. Soon after, Beyonce intervened and tried to mediate the fight between her husband and younger sister. The incident reportedly happened during the 2014 Met Gala afterparty.
At the time of Drake’s IG Story earlier this year, the internet considered it an indirect dig at Jay-Z. In the wake of the lawsuit, social media users are again discussing the same, with some even pointing out that Carter and Drizzy have been silently feuding.
For instance, X user @TexanTeaTv shared the screenshot of Drake’s Instagram Story featuring Solange and captioned it:
“Drake warned em months ago what was about to happen when he posted Solange after the fight with Jay-Z.”
Many people joined the conversation and shared similar reactions on the platform.
“Drake on Jay-Z back lowkey. This lawsuit is definitely from him,” a person wrote.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Drake hit Jay-Z with the proxy attack,” one person wrote.
“Connect the dots, folks. This has Drake written all over it. That's why he said round two and posted the Solange elevator photos. Drake is mad Jay-Z is letting Kendrick potentially perform ‘Not Like Us’ at Superbowl and tryna embarrass Beyonce for her Christmas performance...” wrote another.
Others continued to chime in.
“LMAOOOOOOOOOO this man is always 100 steps ahead sh*t crazy,” a netizen wrote.
“I knew it this has Aubrey written all over it,” another netizen wrote.
“Man let Drake lay low... d*mn you don’t have to bring his name up every time something happens… let Drake stay quiet while all his opps go to jail,” a user wrote.
“It’s all starting to make sense. Drake was a targeted distraction and Kendrick was Jay Z’s and Diddy’s puppet,” wrote another.
On December 8, Jay-Z's name was added as Sean "Diddy" Combs’ co-defendant in a civil suit originally filed in a New York Federal Court in October. As per the lawsuit, Carter and Diddy reportedly r*ped a 13-year-old girl at the MTV VMAs afterparty in 2000, allegedly in the presence of an unnamed female celebrity.
Exploring Drake and Jay-Z’s alleged friction over the years

In 2014, Drake sat down with Rolling Stone and commented about his former collaborator HOV’s music.
“It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references,” Drizzy mocked.
In response, Carter dissed him in his remix of We Made It, in which he called the Canadian rapper “Mrs. Drizzy.”
While the alleged feud was dormant for years, in October 2024, Drake took to Instagram. He not only posted Solange’s picture from the 2014 fight with HOV but also one featuring late R&B singer Aaliyah holding a dog. This was also deemed an indirect hit at the Roc Nation boss.
For those unaware, Jay-Z and Aaliyah were rumored to be dating in the late 1990s. Record executive Damon Dash, who co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records with Carter and Kareem Burke, even claimed earlier this year that he and HOV were interested in Aaliyah at the same time.
However, Dash claimed Carter was the one the deceased songstress chose, as he “threw my A-game.” Dash’s comment came during the October interview on the That’s F*cked Up podcast. Notably, Aaliyah and Damon dated from 2000 until her death in August 2001.
Notably, Kendrick Lamar, with whom Drake had been feuding earlier this year, was named as the headliner of the Superbowl LIX halftime show scheduled to take place in New Orleans in February 2025.
Following this, Jay-Z earned criticism as his Roc Nation company was in charge of the NFL’s entertainment department, while he himself had been the co-producer of the Superbowl halftime show since 2019.
“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come,” Jay-Z shared.
Several industry insiders, such as Nicki Mina,j called out Carter for favoring K-Dot over Drizzy, Birdman, Lil Wayne, and others.
While Drake directly didn't comment on the same, he appeared at the Nostalgia Party in his hometown on October 5, hosted by Canadian broadcaster Tyrone Edwards. During the party, Champagne Papi took the mic and addressed the crowd by saying there comes a "point in life" where people you considered friends or "close to you" end up switching sides or stabbing you in the back.
The Comeback Season rapper played 50 Cent's Mad Men at the event, a song about betrayal alongside Queen Bey's Me, Myself, and I, bearing a similar theme.
