A recent post on Facebook by SpaceX Fanclub claimed professors from Kamala Harris' alma mater Howard University dubbed her "the worst student ever". An article published on September 10 by SpaceX Mania's subsidiary Esspots described the claim in detail, quoting several supposed retired professors who had allegedly taught the Democratic Presidential contender.
While Kamala was indeed a student at Howard University — a historically Black college, everything written about her personality and behavior at the establishment in the story is fabricated solely for satirical purposes. However, this story is entirely satirical. Published by Esspots, a subsidiary of SpaceX Mania, the article clearly labels the content as satire, with "RATED SATIRE" marked on both the article and the shared image.
The page further jokingly added, addressing the readers, as seen from the small text on the top right corner of the image:
"Nothing on this page is real. If you believe anything we post then you're a potato crop."
On Esspots' 'About Us' page, it is also clarified:
"Our team of writers and editors is dedicated to bringing you the latest and greatest in fake news and absurdity, all with a healthy dose of humor and satire."
Thus, the statement about Kamala Harris being "the worst student ever" is false.
Howard University expresses pride in Kamala Harris' accomplishments
When Kamala Harris took her oath as Vice President of the United States of America in 2021, Howard University shared a written statement celebrating her achievement.
The establishment acknowledged her as "more than a symbol", whose "personal and individual attributes" cannot be disregarded. The university heaped praises on her as someone who exudes a "unique charisma, intellect" and attained experience to fit the role of vice president:
"It was her drive and dedication that propelled her to achieve extraordinary levels of excellence in all her life’s pursuits."
As opposed to what Esspots wrote in their satirical piece about Kamala’s performance in her debate class, where she supposedly provided a rather bizarre response to an argument on a proposed bill, Howard University wrote:
"From her days as an undergraduate economics and political science student at Howard, it was clear that Harris was bound for greatness. She was singularly gifted at debate and had a hunger for knowledge and information. She combined her personal attributes and strength of character with a Howard education to forge a life dedicated to societal, not personal, advancement."
Howard University praised Kamala Harris for embodying the school's "principles of truth and service" throughout her career. The university was proud of her becoming the first female U.S. Vice President. According to AP, when Kamala learned about her potential 2024 presidential run, she was wearing her "Howard sweatshirt." A senior student, voting for the first time, mentioned how Kamala's candidacy inspired fellow students.
The possibility of Kamala Harris, who has Asian American and African American roots, becoming the first woman to be the US President has encouraged other Howard University students to dream big.
The senior, Nikkya Taliaferro added:
"Even if she doesn’t win, she’s already made such a big impact and I know for all of us, that alone, is unforgettable."
Kamala holds her alma mater in high regard as she paid tribute to Howard in a January 2021 Instagram post.
She credited the university for teaching her not to cower because of her different racial identity, but to be assured that her entire Howard family would be cheering for her.
