On October 2, 2024, a now-deleted post made rounds on Facebook, claiming that American actor Tom Selleck said he would pull Blue Bloods from CBS if they didn't fire their biased debate moderators. The Facebook post was from a page called 'America- Love It or Leave It,' and it read:
"Tom Selleck says he'll pull 'Blue Bloods' from CBS if they don't fire the biased debate moderators: 'That was embarrassing.'"
The debate moderators in question are chief foreign affairs correspondent and Face The Nation moderator Margaret Brennan and anchor of CBS Evening News Norah O'Donnell. The duo were the moderators of the U.S. vice-presidential debate that took place on October 1, 2024.
However, according to fact-checking website Snopes, there is no evidence that Tom Selleck threatened to pull Blue Bloods from CBS. Additionally, the bio of the 'America-Love It or Leave It' page mentions that it is a subsidiary of the satirical page 'America's Last Line of Defense' and states, "Nothing on this page is real."
The fact-checking website also mentioned that the rumor originated from 'America's Last Line of Defense,' comprising multiple Facebook pages and websites that describe its content as satirical.
"I'm kind of frustrated"- Tom Selleck comments on Blue Bloods getting canceled after 14 years
In May 2024, CBS announced that Blue Bloods would end in December 2024 after a run of 14 years. Expressing discontent over the show getting canceled, Tom Selleck, who played Frank Reagan on the show, mentioned in his interview with TV Insider, dated October 3, 2024, that the show's success was always taken for granted.
The actor was asked how he felt about the series coming to an end, to which he replied:
"I'm kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven't wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful."
Tom Selleck also quoted the success statistics of the show and said that Blue Bloods was in the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024, mentioning that the show was number 9 out of 100. The actor also said that if the three football shows ahead of them were discounted, Blue Bloods would be number 6.
Talking about how he won't turn bitter about the show coming to an end, Tom Selleck mentioned:
"I'm not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, 'Get off my lawn!' I don't believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, 'Here's a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,' it would be almost impossible to believe."
Toward the end of the interview, Tom Selleck mentioned that it's going to take him a long time to sort out his feelings about the show coming to an end. The actor also recalled his feelings after the weekend of filming the final episode, mentioning that he had planned to go to bed early that night because he needed to prepare for his dialogue on Monday. However, he then realized there was no Monday and that "it's just going to take a while" to adjust.
When asked what he would miss most about the Blue Bloods set, Tom Selleck said that he would miss the actors. He described the family of actors as close as the characters they play on the show, stating, "There’s isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back."
Part 2 of Blue Bloods season 14 will premiere on CBS on October 18, 2024. All previous seasons are available to stream on Paramount +
