Social media users recently took to the internet to claim that Bigfoot was spotted in Lawton, Oklahoma. As the video has amassed millions of views online, it is worth noting that the claims are not true. The sasquatch was not spotted in the U.S. in reality.

TikTok user Emmanuel Alfaro was the first to share a 10-second video of him capturing the animal relaxing on the side of a Parallel Forest tree. After the creature spotted Alfaro from a distance, the man turned the camera and ran away. He wrote in the video:

“Scariest moment of my life and I really think I caught a Bigfoot on camera at parallel forest. I wakes just doing some sight seeing and enjoying the day and saw something in the distance. Im still shaking as I type this.”

The video was then shared on other social media platforms. X user @FearedBuck shared the video on their account on October 3 and amassed over six million views. However, it is worth noting that the creature was not spotted in Oklahoma, and the video is a snippet of an advertisement.

Bigfoot was not seen in Oklahoma

X’s Community Note was one of the first to debunk claims of the creature being spotted. It noted that the viral clip was from an advertisement for Bigfoot Head Shop.

“This is an excerpt from a video advertisement for Bigfoot Head Shop in Lawton, Oklahoma,” the note read.

Social media users have heavily debated the existence of the sasquatch. Sasquatch is an ape-like creature that some people believe roams around North America. The species has been commonly compared to the Loch Ness monster and Chupacabra, as there is scant evidence of them existing in reality.

The creature is believed to have originated from Indigenous myths and legends. It is described as six to 15 feet tall, with hairy man-like features standing erect on its two feet.

Although no evidence of its existence is available online, many have claimed to have seen the creature multiple times. A local newspaper in Victoria, British Columbia, was the first to claim they captured a picture of “half man and half beast” resembling “something of a gorilla type.”

Washington natives then claimed to have killed the animal, with people in California also claiming to have discovered the creature. In 2021, Oklahoma state representative J.J. Humphrey encouraged people to search for the animal. He also came forward with a three-million-dollar bounty to encourage tourism. He said in a press statement:

“Nobody wants to harm Bigfoot. We're going to do a live, humane capture of Bigfoot. We're extending this beyond just our region and throughout the state. We're wanting the whole world to come to southeastern Oklahoma, to the state of Oklahoma and get involved in our bounty – Oklahoma bounty, Bigfoot bounty. So, we're excited to invite the whole world to come and participate.”

Hence, it is safe to say that the viral video of the creature that supposedly took place in Oklahoma is not real.
