Claims of Disney and Pixar creating a movie based on “Edgar’s fall” have gone viral across social media. An animated poster claiming that the production houses are making the movie has spread like wildfire online. Although the placards seem convincing enough, they are far from the truth. A movie based on the viral video is not being created.

X (formerly known as Twitter) user @_mmagallanes was one among the many who shared the movie poster. While tweeting- “This one is still good,” he attached a picture that showed the Disney and Pixar photo. One could see a chubby child wearing a red t-shirt fall into a stream while looking horrified. The name “Edgar” was included in the poster as well. At the time of writing this article, the tweet had amassed over 11K views.

X user @LuisValLe_A shared another poster as well which has taken social media by storm. In the same, one can see the name of the two children’s movie production companies. A boy, much older than the one from the aforementioned poster, could be seen holding on to a tree bark in front of what seems to be a waterfall in the forest.

The phrase- “ya, güey” which translates to “enough, dude,” in Spanish. was included in the movie poster as well.

From the outfit and the poster, it was evident that it was in reference to Edgar.

At the time of writing this article, the tweet had amassed nearly two million views.

As the convincing poster goes viral across social media platforms, it is important to note that the image is not real.

Disney and Pixar are not creating an Edgar movie

As the posters spread like wildfire across social media platforms, it is important to note that they are not real. Neither Disney nor Pixar has issued an official statement regarding the creation of such a movie. The absence of any official social media posts on their accounts confirms that this content was not generated by these companies.

Upon closer examination by netizens, a watermark with the tag @LuisValLe becomes visible on one of the posters. Official Disney and Pixar posters do not have watermarks.

Claims about Disney and Pixar producing movies connected to Mexican pop culture have gone viral on previous occasions. There were posters suggesting that they were developing a film centered around the Battle of Culiacanazo and Chalino Sanchez, which also went viral. Nevertheless, the rumours were later debunked.

It is important to verify such information through credible news outlets. Oftentimes, netizens spread disinformation for momentary “clout” or popularity.

The "Edgar's fall" video went viral across Latin America and amassed over 24 million views on YouTube.

For those unversed, “Edgar’s fall” refers to a viral video that was taken on a hiking ranch in Monterrey, Mexico. In the clip that was uploaded in May 2006, one can see Edgar looking hesitant to cross a stream by using a tree branch as a bridge. He can be seen inching towards it. His cousin Fernando, who was accompanying him then shakes one of the branches, leading to Edgar cursing voraciously before plunging into the water.
