Janelle Monae is 38 years old. Born on December 1, 1985, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Janet and Michael Robinson, Monae grew up in a Christian family involved in music at various churches. She attended F.L. Schlagle High School and later moved to New York to study at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Feeling out of place, she dropped out and relocated to Atlanta, joining Perimeter College at Georgia State University.

Monae's career took off after featuring on the Purple Ribbon All-Stars album "Got Purp? Vol. 2." She signed with "Bad Boy" in 2006 and released her first solo in 2007 called 'Metropolis.' Her EP, "Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition)," came out in 2008, earning her a Grammy nomination. In 2010, she released the album "The ArchAndroid" and received the Vanguard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.

Monae's achievements continued with performances at the Grammy Awards, the Nobel Peace Prize concert, and becoming the spokesperson for "Cover Girl" in 2012. Harvard College Women’s Center honored her in 2014. In 2015, Monae founded her record label, "Wondaland Records," and in 2016, she starred in "Hidden Figures."
