Former United States First Lady, Melania Trump, opened up about her husband and former United States President, Donald Trump, surviving two assassination attempts. During an appearance on Fox News's Fox & Friends, which previewed on Wednesday, September 25, Melania recalled receiving a call from Trump's chief of staff after the July 13 Butler shooting.
She could not comprehend what had happened but saw her husband on the floor on TV. When another attempt on Trump's life took place while he was golfing on September 15, Melania recalled immediately calling to make sure everything was fine, complimenting the Secret Service for their outstanding work on the day.
"I think both events, they were really miracles. If you really think about it, July 13 was a miracle. That much and he could not be with us," Melania said, pointing out with her fingers how close the bullet got to Trump's head.
"I ran to the TV and I rewind it and I watched it": Melania Trump about when Donald Trump got shot in Butler, Pennsylvania
In a very rare instance, former First Lady Melania Trump sat down with Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt for an interview, revolving around promoting her book, titled "Melania." This was the former First Lady and retired model's first television interview in over 2 years.
Melania Trump had written in her book that during the first assassination attempt on her husband's life on July 13, 2024, during the infamous Butler, Pennsylvania, rally, she was actually watching the event on television but decided to pause it to focus on work. Later, she received a call from Donald Trump's chief of staff, detailing that there had been a shooting but her husband was okay.
In a preview for the interview released by Fox News on Wednesday, Ainsley Earhardt recalled the events to the former First Lady and asked her what happened next. Melania Trump replied:
"I ran to the TV and I rewind it and I watched it, I was only a few minutes behind, and something I guess looked over me, so I didn't really see it live, but maybe three minutes, a few minutes later. But when I saw it nobody really knew yet, because when you see him on the floor and you don't know what really happened."
Apart from a bullet grazing Donald Trump's ear, the shooting in Butler resulted in the deaths of several people who attended the rally, along with the killing of the shooter, Thomas Crooks. At the time, the Secret Service was heavily criticized for the way they handled the former president's safety.
Later in the interview, Ainsley Earhardt recalled the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump's life on September 15, when the former president was at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The incident occurred when Trump was golfing and Secret Service agents noticed a gun peering out from the bushes. The perpetrator, Ryan Routh, fled the scene and was arrested the following day.
When asked about where she was and her reaction to this attempt, Melania Trump revealed that she was in New York City at the time. She remembered:
"I saw it on the television and as soon as I saw it on television, I called again and he was okay because the Secret Service were great, the guys, the team were fantastic."
As aforementioned, Melania Trump thought that both these events were miracles, especially the July 13 assassination attempt, where Donald Trump escaped serious injury by a very fine margin.
Melania also broke her silence on the 2022 FBI raid at her and Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. When asked about how invasive the raid was, Melania replied:
"Yeah, it made me angry, yes, invasion of privacy and the way it was done, I was really surprised."
When asked what she saw when she walked back into her own home after the raid, Melania revealed:
"I saw unpleasant stuff that nobody wants to see. And you get angry because, you know, nobody should be putting up with that kind of stuff. Some person, I don't even know who or how many people, they went through my stuff."
In her book, Melania Trump detailed how the FBI had access to her bedroom, closet, and office. She noted how they allegedly rummaged through her personal items and even searched the room of their son, Barron Trump.
