Hotel Portofino season 2: Release date, cast, and where to watch the historical drama

Hotel Portofino season 2 is set to hit PBS on Sunday, October 15 at 8 pm ET and 7 pm CT. The British period drama, written and created by Matt Baker, revolves around the members of a British family who operate a posh hotel based in the titular Italian resort town for rich clients.

While some pointed out similarities between Hotel Portofino and The Durrells and Downton Abbey, the 1920-set TV series has managed to develop a fan following of its own over the years. Thus, fans in the USA are over the moon about the upcoming season 2 premiere.

The new season will consist of six episodes, with a new one releasing every Sunday till the finale, which is expected to air on November 19.

Adam Wimpenny is directing all six episodes of season 2 with Matt Baker enlisted as the writer. It is important to note that the second season was released in Australia on February 12, 2023. After its premiere, the next five episodes of the season followed a weekly release pattern with the season 2 finale airing on March 19, 2023.

Two days before the Hotel Portofino season 2 finale aired in Australia, the series premiered in the UK, on March 17, 2023. The Natascha McElhone-led show followed a weekly release scheduled in the UK as well and the finale aired on April 21, 2023.

Filmed in Croatia in July 2022, the series was reportedly the biggest production in the European country last year. Variety noted that the team attached to the series employed 135 native individuals in the crew and had over 800 extras. Among the locals, more than 92% were department heads.

The publication added that the team lensed sequences in locations in Zagreb, Lovran, Matulji, Rijeka, Grožnjan, and Belaj.

As far as the release platforms are concerned, Hotel Portofino season 2 will be available on PBS, its streaming option Passport, and PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel on Amazon, according to Parade. The portal reported that the second season will get a linear broadcast (cable and satellite TV) on PBS.
