The Crown is loosely based on the life events of Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family.

The Crown is based on real-life events involving Queen Elizabeth II, beginning with her marriage to Prince Philip in 1947. The Netflix original series has always been controversial due to the artistic license taken with historical events and the royal family's personal lives, but that hasn't stopped people from watching.

Though The Crown is clearly inspired by real events involving the monarchy, particularly the various scandals and rumors that have engulfed the royal family over the years, from Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage to Prince Philip's alleged infidelity, the show's creators have made it clear that it is also a work of fiction.
