According to the medical examiner's office in Collin County, Former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber died of heat stroke. Barber wasn't answering when the police showed up to check welfare. But, according to the autopsy report by Dr. William B. Rohr, in Barber's apartment, the thermostat was set to 91 degrees with the heat set to on, and a bathtub tap was running by the time the police arrived. The Medical examiner also wrote that Barber was known to exercise in sauna-like conditions. Collin County coroner ruled Barber's death an accident, Frisco police say. Barber's father, Marion II, said his son's body had been severely decomposed when the police discovered him.

Marion Sylvester Barber III was an American football player who played seven seasons in the National Football League. Barber was the son of former New York Jets running back Marion Barber Jr. and Karen Barber. He was also a relative of Peyton Barber and the older brother of the ex-Safety of the Houston Texans, Dominique Barber, and linebacker of the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Thomas Barber.

From 2005 to 2011, Barber competed in each of his seven NFL seasons thanks to his tenacious running style. A fourth-round selection from the University of Minnesota Cowboys, Barber rapidly became a fan favorite with his nose for the goal area and a fantastic ability to throw tacklers. Barber won the Pro Bowl honors in 2007 after winning 975 yards, ten touchdowns on the field and 44 touchdowns for 282 yards, and two more in the air.

After the 2010 season, Barber joined the Bears and spent his last season in Chicago before retiring in March 2012. Barber has 4,870 rushing yards, 1,330 receiving yards, and 59 touchdowns over the course of his NFL career.
