Amy explained that she only went on dates to keep her promise to her mother of going on at least one date per year. Amy also impressed Sheldon when she told him that all forms of physical contact are strongly forbidden and offered to buy a drink.

Who is Amy?

Amy, also known as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, works as a neurobiologist. She is from Glendale, California; she received her doctorate in neurobiology from Harvard University, which is inspired by actor Mayim Bialik’s doctorate who played the character of Amy.

Amy Farrah Fowler was the deuteragonist of The Big Bang Theory in seasons 4 and 5 before becoming one of the main characters. In the season 3 finale, Howard and Rajesh signed Sheldon up for a dating website, answering all of his questions, and thus Amy, or "the female Sheldon," was discovered. Sheldon and Amy initially considered procreation because they needed to pass on their genes.

However, following a disastrous relationship with Penny, he is blackmailed into not doing so. Amy was considered insufferable when she was first introduced due to her condescending, arrogant, and self-centered personality. However, as she spent more time with her "besties," Penny and Bernadette, she became more humanized and less patient.

In season 3 of the series, Sheldon and Amy met for the first time after as a joke, Raj and Howard created a dating profile for Sheldon. When they set up a date with Amy, they realize they may have found the perfect match for Sheldon. This season, the two have only one scene together, but it's one that lays the groundwork for their future relationship.

In season 4 of the series, it's clear Amy and Sheldon are a perfect match but are very much struggling to define their relationship. They don't want to be in a romantic relationship, but their bond perfectly resembles it. They broke up a few times over silly reasons but also come up with fast solutions to their misunderstandings.

In season 5 of the series, Amy and Sheldon aren't dating at first, but that changes when Amy goes on a date with Stuart. Sheldon is jealous, and when he realizes he does want to be romantically involved with Amy, he asks her out, and she accepts. The two then enter a new phase of their relationship, one in which they date. Physical affection, on the other hand, is almost non-existent at this point.

In season 7 of the series, on a train tour on Valentine’s day that Amy arranges, they finally share their first kiss, making Sheldon realize how much he loves Amy, and Amy also feels how she will feel utterly lonely without him.

In season 8 of the series, things are going well initially, and Amy and Sheldon are happy together. Sheldon even says, ‘I love you too, Amy’. However, at the season's end, Amy breaks up with Sheldon, exhausted by how much work the relationship requires.

In the latter seasons, both Sheldon and Amy patched up and decided to move in together, starting a new life. Later, Sheldon proposed to Amy when she went to Princeton for a summer program. Amy accepted Sheldon’s proposal, and they had a wonderful and joyous wedding. In the final season, they achieved a breakthrough in a project that they were working on together, published a paper, and ended up winning the Nobel Prize.
