In the conclusion of the television series, Bran Stark was crowned the new King of Westeros, Sansa Stark ruled the North as a sovereign nation, Arya Stark sailed west in search of new horizons, and Jon Snow and the Wildlings were exiled beyond the Wall once more.

After eight seasons, HBO's gripping epic historical fantasy series Game of Thrones finally came to an end in May 2019, and the season eight finale in many ways completed the narrative.

The defeat of the White Walkers and the issue of who would rule Westeros in just six episodes presented a significant challenge for the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. They were successful in doing so, but there are some doubts about how audiences viewed the ending, and it received mixed reviews.

What took place at the conclusion of Game of Thrones?

Even though this episode had a relatively low death toll, Daenerys's rule was put an end to, but the conclusion wasn't exactly a happy one. Many of the survivors ended up on a variety of different paths, some in much better circumstances than others.

What happened to the major characters of the show in the end is given below -

Jaime and Cersei Lannister

The incestuous brother-sister duo died, crushed by the Red Keep's debris. They were found dead in each other's arms by Tyrion.

Tyrion Lannister

After Daenerys learned that Tyrion had released his brother Jaime Lannister in the last episode, "The Bells," she had him arrested and charged with treason. Tyrion essentially persuaded Jon Snow to kill Daenerys Targaryen while he was imprisoned.

The most influential people in Westeros then put Tyrion on trial, letting him take charge of the situation so that he could make a speech and install Bran Stark as the new king of the Seven Kingdoms. Tyrion was then chosen by Bran to be his Hand.

Daenerys Targaryen

Tyrion, Jon, and Arya all came to the conclusion that Daenerys needed to be stopped after she delivered a speech about her plans to "liberate" everyone (or, really, burn everything to the ground).

Due to his close relationship with Daenerys, Jon visited her and stabbed her after kissing her. Drogon then flew off with her corpse to an unknown location after melting the Iron Throne with his dragon breath in a fit of rage and sadness.

Jon Snow

Jon killed Daenerys, and as a result, he became a prisoner being held by the Unsullied. Except for Yara Greyjoy and the Unsullied, he appeared to have been mostly absolved of his wrongdoing by the various powers of Westeros.

However, the Unsullied would not permit his release. Instead, a deal was made, and he was sent back to the North, where he apparently joined the Night's Watch, though it wasn't entirely clear from the episode what exactly he was supposed to be doing.

He did get back together with Tormund Giantsbane and his devoted direwolf, Ghost, despite Sansa and Arya Stark's refusal to pay him a visit. Jon was riding through the snow with a group of wildlings in the final scene of the episode, which took place north of the Wall.

Bran Stark

Bran is king thanks to Tyrion Lannister's stirring speech and Westeros's supposedly lax policy of letting treasonous criminals set the country's rules (unexpected by a few viewers). As we learned throughout the season, only someone who doesn't want the throne can rule fairly, so Bran is the ideal candidate for it.

He'll rule justly, and moreover, he also possesses all-seeing abilities due to his status as the Three-Eyed Raven, which should be advantageous to the realm.

Arya Stark

Arya informs Jon, Sansa, and Bran that she will not be staying in the North or in King's Landing. She was last seen on a boat, engaged in some sort of sailing adventure, and wants to travel west, past where all the maps end.

Sansa Stark

During Tyrion's trial and the coronation of Bran, Sansa remarks that the North must maintain its independence, even though she believes her younger brother will make a good ruler. She then assumes the role of queen of the North after Jon is banished, and in her final scene, a crown is placed on her head as her subjects cheer and chant.

What happened to the Targaryen bloodline in the end?

The demise of Daenerys Targaryen completed the long narrative of the Targaryen bloodline. She was betrayed by her Hand, a Lannister, just like her father had been. While Tyrion Lannister smuggled his brother into King's Landing, Tywin Lannister led his army into the city. Additionally, just like her father, Daenerys' insanity led to her demise; it was her burning of King's Landing that ultimately caused people to shun her.

One of Daenerys' most dependable allies, Jon Snow, used that confidence to approach her and stab her. Not every fan agreed with the choice, especially in light of Daenerys' ill-fated ascent to the position of the Mad Queen.

The Iron Throne was turned into a puddle of molten steel shortly after Daenerys died, symbolizing the symbolic breaking of the wheel. The throne had been constructed 300 years prior by Aegon I, Daenerys' ancestor, who had taken control of Westeros with the aid of his sister-wives and become the first Targaryen ruler.

Given that she and Jon were the last of the Targaryen line, it was fitting that Daenerys' demise in the final episode of Game of Thrones should signal the fall of the Iron Throne. Jon must rejoin the Night's Watch this time without taking a wife or having children as his punishment for killing her. The Targaryen family's era was officially over.
