Well-known Japanese singer Junko Ohashi recently passed away at the age of 73 following a long struggle with esophageal cancer since 2018. She gained recognition for her singles Silhouette Romance, and Tasogare My Love and had a huge fanbase for her flawless performances at numerous concerts.

Social media platforms have been flooded with tributes after the news of Ohashi's death went viral. Singer Satoshi Okamura posted a video on Facebook where he was practicing Ohashi's song Silhouette Romance on guitar and was planning to perform it at an event. The caption stated:

"Think I'll try singing live tonight. "Silhouette Romance" R.I.P. Ms. Oiko."

Immediate information on her survivors remains unavailable and further details about her funeral are yet to be revealed officially.


Junko Ohashi was battling esophageal cancer for a long time

Tokyo Hive states that Junko Ohashi was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in March 2018. She reportedly recovered from the disease the following year but the cancer returned earlier this year due to which she had to undergo check ups and her upcoming concerts were canceled.

A statement that was recently shared on Ohashi's official website states that she discontinued performing in April this year. It stated that anyone who purchased tickets for the canceled events would get refunds at their respective venues.

Ohashi's health was further affected and she was taken to the hospital a week before her death. Junko Ohashi's team thanked everyone for their support in the statement posted on her website and revealed that she was undergoing treatment before her death.

"At the end of March 2023, a recurrence of cancer was discovered during her routine check-up. Unfortunately, we had to suspend her activities again. Shе was vеry disappointеd to hеar this, and shе had bееn working hard on trеatmеnt and rеhabilitation with thе aim of rеturning to work whilе building up hеr strеngth. Howеvеr, duе to thе suddеn changе in hеr condition, wе had to makе a rеgrеttablе announcеmеnt."

The statement revealed that Junko planned a lot of things for her fans but failed since she was confined to her home because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Junko's team also wrote that she continued to meet the people she knew since the beginning of her career. It also stated:

"She has a big sisterly personality, and she showed us her back (the way she sings) without even being arrogant."

The statement mentioned that her singing voice would be heard in Japan and all around the world.


Junko Ohashi released many music projects over the years

According to Tokyo Hive, Junko Ohashi was a native of Tokyo and she started her career during the 70s. Her first album, Feeling Now, was released in 1974 and she became popular for her single, Tasogare My Love, which came out in 1978.
