Zachery Ty Bryan, famous for playing Brad Taylor in the hit ABC sitcom Home Improvement has pled guilty to felony assault. The actor pled guilty to fourth-degree felony assault on Wednesday, October 25. He was arrested back in July of this year, after a physical domestic dispute with an anonymous woman.
Zachery Ty Bryan shares four children with his ex-wife, Carly Matros, whom he married in 2007 and divorced in 2020. He was later engaged to Johnnie Faye Cartwright, with whom he shares three children.
When he was arrested on July 28, he was hit with two counts of fourth-degree assault, which was scrapped as part of the new resolution.
Chris Parosa, Lane County's chief deputy district attorney, confirmed the terms of the resolution to Fox Digital. Instead of serving 19-20 months at the Oregon Department of Corrections, Ty Bryan will now serve 7 days in jail and 38 months of supervised probation.
During probation, Ty Bryan won't be allowed to contact the victim without permission from his probation officer. He also won't be allowed to consume alcohol or drugs and will receive treatment for the same under the directions of his probation officer. Failure to comply will result in Bryan being asked to return to court and be subjected to the suspended 19-20 months of prison time.
Zachery Ty Bryan's tumultuous personal life
Zachery Ty Bryan is well-known for portraying troublemaker Bradley Michael "Brad" Taylor in the Tim Allen sitcom, Home Improvement. He has since enjoyed some success in the industry with roles in movies including The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and guest roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Veronica Mars. He was last seen in the 2022 Netflix original, The Guardians of Justice.
Ty Bryan married his high school sweetheart and real estate agent, Carly Matros in 2007. The couple share four children together, twin girls born in 2014, another girl born in 2016, and their only son, born in 2019. Zachery Ty Bryan and Carly Matros announced their divorce in 2020.
Two weeks after Ty Bryan made his breakup with Matros public, he was taken into custody for allegedly trying to choke his girlfriend at the time, model Johnnie Faye Cartwright, at their Eugene, Oregon flat. Zachery Ty Bryan was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault and threatening.
Police reports indicate that Bryan had allegedly tried to strangle his girlfriend and snatched away her phone when she tried to call 911. He pled guilty to both charges but claimed later that the whole thing was blown out of proportion and that the duo never got physical, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.
Zachery Ty Bryan claimed that he pled guilty to the charges to avoid drama and stress. The actor had been seeing Johnnie Faye Cartwright when he was still married to Matros. Later in 2021, Ty Bryan became engaged to Cartwright, the same year she gave birth to a baby girl. Johnnie Faye Cartwright gave birth to twins this year in May.
According to a US Weekly report, Ty Bryan and Cartwright engaged in a troublesome domestic dispute while she was pregnant. Police dispatch reports obtained by the outlet revealed Ty Bryan telling law enforcement that his pregnant fiance was suicidal and had threatened to stab herself in the stomach.
The actor claimed that she had allegedly made previous suicidal threats before and that he took them as a facade. Law enforcement contacted Cartwright who revealed that the duo had a heated dispute but refused claims of suicide while also saying that she was "done" with their relationship.
After Zachery Ty Bryan's latest arrest in July, Johnnie Faye Cartwright gave an exclusive statement to US Weekly on August 1, where she stated that she would always want what was best for the father of her children. She insinuated that the situation was going to be spun in many ways and requested people to respect their family's privacy.
