Christopher Nolan is a British-American filmmaker born on July 30, 1970, in Westminster, London. He was brought up by an American mother, Christina Jensen, and a British father, Brendan James Nolan, who worked as a creative director in advertising. Nolan has two brothers, Matthew and Jonathan. Jonathan Nolan is also a filmmaker and has created critically acclaimed shows such as Westworld.

Nolan attended Haileybury, a boarding school just outside London, and later studied English literature at University College London, where he joined a film society. From an early age, Nolan was fascinated by moviemaking and was heavily influenced by George Lucas's Star Wars trilogy and the visually captivating works of Ridley Scott.

He has a total of 8 Oscar nominations, winning two with both coming for Oppenheimer (2023). His first Oscar nomination was in the Best Original Screenplay category for Memento in 2002.
