The Friends television show has 10 seasons and 236 episodes. The popular American sitcom “Friends” began in 1994 and ran until 2004. The decade-long series had 236 episodes, and a Friends reunion was organized in 2021. The show was produced by Marta Kauffman, David Crane, and Kevin S. Bright in association with Warner Bros.

The story is about six friends, namely Ross (David Schwimmer), Monica (Courteney Cox), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), and Chandler (Matthew Perry), who all reside in Manhattan and go through their professional and personal struggles. The best part, however, is the hilarious delivery of sarcasm and humor. There were conflicting opinions at first, but over time, it rose to become the greatest show ever. Friends dominated popular culture in the 1990s and continue to have influence, even today.

The plot summary for each season of "Friends" is given below, in the shortest possible form and without many spoilers. The story is not incomplete; rather, it has been purposefully left open-ended in order to conceal spoilers.

Season 1

The six main characters who reside in New York City were introduced in the first season: waitress Rachel Green; professional chef Monica Geller; her paleontologist brother Ross Geller; free-spirited masseuse Phoebe Buffay; struggling actor Joey Tribbiani; and Ross's college friend, statistical analyst Chandler Bing. After leaving her orthodontist fiancé Barry at the altar, Rachel makes her way to Central Perk wearing her wedding gown. She relocates to Monica's apartment and begins working as a waitress at Central Perk.

Ross has unspoken feelings for Rachel but already has a lot on his plate with his divorce and Rachel being involved with someone else, etc. Meanwhile, Chandler unintentionally told Rachel about Ross’s love for her when he was in China for an excavation. As the season comes to a close, Rachel awaits Ross at the airport as he returns from China.

Season 2

When Rachel meets Ross at the airport, she learns that he has brought Julie (Lauren Tom), a friend from graduate school, with him. When Rachel learns of Ross's list of the drawbacks of dating her, they start to argue after he dumps Julie for her. They eventually start dating after Rachel discovers Ross was going to stand in for her prom date, who almost dumped her, on an old home video from her and Monica's prom night.

Monica starts dating Richard Burke (Tom Selleck), a family friend who recently got divorced and is 21 years older than her. When Monica understands that Richard, who is already a father, does not want any more children, they eventually split up. In a fictitious adaptation of Days of Our Lives, Joey plays Dr. Drake Ramoray, a neurosurgeon. He leaves the apartment he shares with Chandler, obliging Chandler to find a new roommate in Eddie (Adam Goldberg).

Season 3

Chandler and Janice date for several episodes until Joey catches Janice kissing her soon-to-be ex-husband. Not wanting to destroy her family, Chandler urges Janice to go back to her husband, then becomes depressed over the breakup for several episodes. Rachel quits her job at Central Perk and begins working at Bloomingdale's, an upscale department store chain.

Ross soon becomes jealous of her colleague Mark and frustrated by Rachel's long work hours. She is tired of his constant jealousy and insecurity and decides they need a relationship break. Ross, hurt and somewhat drunk, immediately sleeps with Chloe, "the hot girl from the Xerox place," causing Rachel to break up with him completely.

Although Phoebe initially believes she has no family except her twin sister Ursula (Lisa Kudrow), she learns she has a half-brother, Frank Jr. (Giovanni Ribisi), and discovers her birth mother, Phoebe Abbott (Teri Garr), over the course of the season.

Phoebe sets Ross up on a date with her friend, Bonnie (Christine Taylor), inciting Rachel's jealousy. Rachel tries to sabotage the relationship and eventually admits to Ross that she still has feelings for him. The season closes with Ross having to choose between Rachel and Bonnie.

Season 4

Ross breaks up with Bonnie and pretends to read a lengthy letter that Rachel wrote for him. Ross explains that they were taking a break when he had a sexual encounter with Chloe, which caused them to break up once more. Joey dates Kathy (Paget Brewster), and Chandler has a crush on her. Later, Chandler and Kathy share a kiss. Joey only pardons Chandler and allows him to date Kathy after Chandler receives his punishment. Chandler breaks up with Kathy after finding out that she cheated on him as a result of their argument.

Phoebe conceded to being a surrogate for his half-brother, Frank Jr., and his wife, Alice.

When Monica and Rachel lose a bet during a game of trivia, they are forced to switch apartments with Joey and Chandler; however, they are able to switch back by providing a bribe. Joshua (Tate Donovan), a client whom Rachel later dates, is introduced to her. Ross and Emily (Helen Baxendale) begin dating before getting married. Chandler and Monica are hiding something.

Season 5

Rachel quickly tells Ross that she loves him and that she knows his marriage to Emily needs work because she sees how ridiculous it is. Chandler and Monica make efforts to conceal their new relationship from their friends. Phoebe gives birth to triplets in the 100th episode of the show. She gives birth to two girls and a boy.

After weeks of trying to get through to her, Ross finally gets Emily to agree to reconcile and move to New York in exchange for him cutting off all contact with Rachel. Ross agrees with a nod, but he later goes to dinner with Rachel and his other friends. Emily calls off their marriage after learning that Ross cannot be trusted when Rachel answers the phone.

Rachel takes a new job at Ralph Lauren. Monica and Chandler make their public relationship announcement to the surprise and delight of their friends. They decide not to get married after seeing Ross and Rachel stumble out of the wedding chapel after drinking too much alcohol during their trip to Las Vegas.

Season 6

Ross and Rachel's marriage is revealed in the season 6 opener to have been a drunken error that neither of them recalls until the others make them realize it. Ross assures Rachel that he will obtain an annulment, but he keeps his promise a secret because he cannot bear to have three failed marriages. Rachel is forced to move in with Phoebe when Monica and Chandler decide to live together, and Joey gets a new roommate, Janine (Elle Macpherson).

They start to date and have feelings for one another, but the relationship is cut short when Janine criticizes Monica and Chandler. Joey needs to work at Central Perk because he has trouble paying his bills after Janine moves out.

Richard Burke, Monica's ex-boyfriend, shows up unexpectedly while they are out to dinner at a fancy restaurant, ruining Chandler's intended proposal. Later, Richard confesses to Monica his desire to wed her and start a family. When Chandler claims he doesn't want to get married, Monica gets angry with him. When Chandler gets home, he thinks Monica has abandoned him; however, their apartment is decorated with candles, and she is getting ready to pop the question.

Season 7

The seventh season mainly follows Monica and Chandler as they plan their wedding. Joey's television series, Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E is canceled, but he is offered his old role on Days of Our Lives. The show is reconfigured with the revelation that Dr. Drake Ramoray has been in a four-year coma and is revived with a brain transplant from another character. Phoebe's repaired apartment now has one large bedroom instead of the original two. Rachel is promoted at Ralph Lauren and impulsively hires a young assistant, Tag Jones (Eddie Cahill), based on his looks, and they begin dating.

Chandler panics and goes into hiding just as Phoebe and Rachel find a positive pregnancy test in Monica and Chandler's bathroom. They assume Monica is pregnant and convince him to return for the wedding ceremony, though he briefly bolts again after overhearing their conversation. After the ceremony, Monica denies she is pregnant; unbeknownst to everyone, the positive pregnancy test is Rachel's.

Season 8

Ross is eventually revealed to be the father, and the season revolves around Rachel's pregnancy. Rachel and Ross agree to be co-parents without resuming their romantic relationship. Ross begins dating Mona, who is Monica's co-worker from Allesandro's.

Joey takes Rachel out to quell her fears about motherhood and realizes he has romantic feelings for her. While suppressing his feelings, he encourages Rachel to stay at Ross's apartment so he can be involved in the pregnancy. The arrangement is too much for Mona, and she breaks up with Ross. Joey tells Rachel that he loves her, but she realizes she does not feel the same way.

After Monica jokes about having kids, she and Chandler decide to have a baby. Rachel is left saddened and afraid after Janice says Ross may not always be there for her and the baby. Meanwhile, Ross intends to ask Rachel if she wants to resume their relationship.

Season 9

Monica and Chandler discover that they are physically incompatible for pregnancy, and after considering their options, decide to adopt. Chandler unknowingly agrees to a work transfer to Tulsa just as Monica is offered the head chef job at Javu. After being apart from Monica during Christmas, Chandler quits to pursue a new career in advertising. He starts as an unpaid intern at an ad agency and eventually gets hired as a junior copywriter.

Phoebe begins dating Mike Hannigan (Paul Rudd) for most of the season. Phoebe dates her ex-boyfriend from season 1, David (Hank Azaria), who plans on proposing to her, but Mike proposes first.

Rachel and Emma (her daughter) move in with Joey after Rachel develops a crush on him, only to be disheartened when he starts dating another woman after realizing that her and Ross's living situation is too weird. However, upon seeing Ross and Charlie kiss each other, Joey goes to Rachel's hotel room, and the finale ends with them kissing.

She encounters her former Bloomingdale's co-worker Mark, who offers her a new job at Louis Vuitton in Paris. Ross, believing Rachel wants to stay, tries bribing Mr. Zelner to rehire her until he realizes Rachel wants to go to Paris. When Rachel says a tearful personal goodbye to everyone except Ross at her going away party, a hurt and angry Ross confronts Rachel, and they end up sleeping together.

Before the plane takes off, Rachel calls Ross's home phone and leaves a voicemail, apologizing for the way it ended. While speaking, she realizes that she loves him too and gets off the plane at the last minute.
