What is ‘American Dad!’ About?

The first time American Dad! appeared on the screen of Fox in February 2005, and afterwards, TBS in 2014. The show specializes in satire, critical observation of society, and ridiculous plots.

The plot of the show revolves around Stan Smith, an old-fashioned and staunch patriot who leads the Smith family. Other people in this family include his wife, Francine, a stay-at-home mom, two kids–Hayley, an ultra-liberal college student, and Steve, a socially awkward teenager and an uncommon alien they call Roger, who lives with them.

Additionally, there's Klaus, a goldfish with the brain of an East German Olympic skier, who was once a human. "American Dad!" often parodies various aspects of American culture, politics, and society, tackling current events and issues humorously and exaggeratedly. The show uses its characters to explore different themes and satirize political ideologies while delving into the dynamics of family relationships.

It is remarkable that the series explores unusual subject matters and does not hesitate to take risks. American Dad!’s humor can be edgy with a dry tone, and the show has excellent writing and sharp banter. Compared to other animated sitcoms like “South Park,” which is mainly episodic, American Dad tends to follow certain continuities within the show.
