What is Ozark about?
Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams for Netflix, Ozark stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney as Marty and Wendy Byrde. The married couple moves their family to Lake of the Ozarks region in Missouri after a money laundering scheme for a Mexican drug cartel goes wrong. However, when the Byrdes arrive in Missouri, they become involved with local criminals such as the Langmore and Snell families, as well as the Kansas City Mafia.
What happened in season 4 of Ozark?
In the first part of season 4, the Byrdes had established a casino to launder millions, had mounds of blood on their hands, and were negotiating a deal with the cartel and the FBI that would ultimately allow them to leave town and begin over.
However, Omar Navarro is jailed after Maya Miller ruins the Byrdes’ plan to get Navarro out of the cartel, by using the FBI, by arresting him. It meant that Javier was the new boss of the cartel and he fatally shot Darlene Snell and her new husband Wyatt Langmore. That only happens after he cuts a deal with the FBI at Navarro’s pleading, who would have become a free man.
But while Javier does cut a deal with the FBI, they renege on their deal with Navarro and leave him in jail to serve his sentence. However, after Javier shoots both Snell and Langmore, Ruth Langmore decides to take revenge for her cousin and puts the FBI and Byrde’s deal in jeopardy. That ends part 1 but part 2 sees Ruth take revenge and kill Javier which later leads to her death at the hands of Javier’s mother Camila Elizonndro.
It also sees the Byrdes secure funding for their foundation and makes them bulletproof against the FBI, cartels and everyone else which essentially secures their future. However, at the same time, Navarro is murdered in prison by a rogue prison offer on Camila’s orders while a PI in the form of Mel Sattem, who was set to cause more problems for the Byrdes, is said to have been killed by Jonah after the screen cuts to black in the season finale.
Will there be a Season 5 of Ozark?
No, there won’t be a Season 5 of Ozark as in June 2020, the showrunners announced that the Netflix series would get a super-sized Season 4 in order to give it a proper end. That was confirmed by Chris Mundy, the showrunner, when he said “We’re so happy Netflix recognized the importance of giving Ozark more time to end the Byrdes’ saga right."
Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of Original Content, also revealed “Ozark is a gripping drama that has captivated audiences all around the world and garnered tremendous critical acclaim. We’re so grateful to Chris [Mundy], Jason [Bateman], Laura [Linney], Julia [Garner], and the entire cast and crew for all their tireless dedication to the show and can’t wait to see how the Byrdes’ journey comes to a close.”
Are there going to be any Ozark spinoffs?
While there has been nothing confirmed as of right now regarding spinoffs, Ozark has become too big of a hit for Netflix to ignore. Furthermore, based on how Netflix has handled previous hits such as Narcos, Money Heist, and The Witcher, it appears quite likely that we will see a spinoff in our streaming futures.
