J-Hope was born on February 18, 1994, in Gwangju and is thus 29 years old.
He resided with his parents and older sister, Jung Ji-woo. His real name is Jung Ho-seok while his stage name, "J-Hope," is a manifestation of his aspiration to embody hope for his followers and to become "the hope of BTS." Additionally, it alludes to the tale of Pandora's box, where hope was the sole remaining entity after all the evils within the box were set free into the world.

J-Hope is a renowned South Korean rapper, singer-songwriter, dancer, and record producer. He commenced his career in 2013 as a member of the popular South Korean boy band BTS under the umbrella of Big Hit Entertainment. In 2018, J-Hope launched his first solo mixtape, Hope World, which was well-received by critics and secured the 38th spot on the US Billboard 200 chart. At the time, this was the highest-ranking album by a Korean solo artist.

Prior to his debut with BTS, J-Hope was a member of an underground dance team named Neuron and underwent six years of dance training at Gwangju Music Academy, from fourth grade until his first year in high school.
Following his signing with Big Hit Entertainment, he gained widespread recognition for his exceptional dancing abilities and secured numerous local accolades, including first place in a national dance competition in 2008. Over time, his passion for dance evolved into an interest in singing, leading him to audition for an idol trainee position. As a trainee, J-Hope made a featured appearance as a rapper in singer Jo Kwon's track "Animal," released in 2012.
