Forrest Gump was released on June 23 (in Los Angeles) and July 6 (in the United States) in 1994. Tom Hanks was born on July 9, 1956. As a result, when the film was in production and released, he was 37 years old.

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, an American actor and director, is one of the most well-known movie stars in the world and is regarded as an American cultural icon for his comedic and dramatic performances.

Hanks ranks fourth among North America's highest-grossing actors thanks to his films, which have earned over $4.9 billion in North America and over $9.96 billion globally. AFI Life Achievement Award in 2002, Kennedy Center Honor in 2014, Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016, French Legion of Honor in 2017, and Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Awards in 2020 are just a few of the honors he has received.

Hanks won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 1994 hit movie "Forrest Gump," which earned over $600 million globally. Tom Hanks said, "When I read the script for Gump, I saw it as one of those kinds of grand, hopeful movies that the audience can go to and feel... some hope for their lot and their position in life... I got that from the movies a hundred million times when I was a kid. I still do."

What is Forrest Gump?

In 1994, Eric Roth and Robert Zemeckis released the American comedy-drama film “Forrest Gump.” Starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field, it is based on Winston Groom's 1986 novel of the same name. A slow-witted and kindhearted Alabaman named Forrest Gump (Hanks) and his experiences in 20th-century America are followed over the course of several decades in the movie. The novel is very different from the movie.

Principal photography took place between August and December 1993, primarily in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Hanks was incorporated into archival footage, and other scenes were developed using a lot of visual effects. Songs from the soundtrack reflect the various eras depicted in the movie.

The American premiere of Forrest Gump took place on July 6, 1994, and Zemeckis' direction, performances, visual effects, music, and screenplay won praise from critics. The movie was a huge hit at the box office, earning over US$678.2 million globally during its theatrical run, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 1994, the first being “The Lion King.”

Six Academy Awards went to Forrest Gump, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Visual Effects, and Best Film Editing. The Golden Globes, the British Academy Film Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards were among the many honors for which it received nominations.

There are many ways to interpret the main character and the political symbolism in the movie. The movie was chosen by the Library of Congress in 2011 to be preserved in the US National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

How much did Tom Hanks earn from Forrest Gump?

The initial salary estimate for Tom to play Forrest Gump was $7 million, but the film's budget was significantly exceeded at some point during production. To avoid the possibility of the movie deviating from its course, Tom offered to forego his salary in exchange for "first dollar" backend points.

In that case, he was given a portion of the box office earnings due to Paramount before the studio began deducting expenses like marketing and printing costs and after the theater owners had taken their cut.

Forrest Gump eventually became a huge box office success, earning nearly $700 million at the box office and an additional $100 million to $200 million over time from licensing agreements and VHS and DVD sales.

Tom did extremely well with his first dollar deal. His backend points were worth about $70 million in the first year alone, which is equivalent to about $120 million today. It remains one of the highest acting salaries in Hollywood history and by far his biggest acting paycheck.

What real estate does Tom Hanks own?

In the incredibly exclusive Malibu Colony, Tom and Rita paid $2.95 million in April 1991 for a sizable oceanfront mansion. John Frankenheimer, a director, was the seller. This home is probably worth $20 million right now, if not more. In the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, Tom and Rita invested $26 million in January 2010 to buy the home that would serve as their primary residence.

Tom and Rita sold two Palisades homes that were next to one another for $18 million in May 2017. The buyer demolished the two houses to make room for a massive single mansion while concealing their identity through a San Francisco-based lawyer and LLC. At least five additional properties are owned by Tom and Rita in Pacific Palisades.

Tom and Rita own a ski lodge in Sun Valley, Idaho, which is located outside of Los Angeles. The portfolio of real estate assets owned by Hanks and Wilson is worth at least $150 million in total.
