On August 2, 2024, American actor and activist George Takei took to X to respond to Logan Paul's recent statement on Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, which garnered a lot of backlash online

The controversy surrounding Imane Khelif began after news of the athlete failing the gender test last year during the World Championships and being allowed to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics came out. Multiple social media accounts spread false rumors that Imane Khelif was biologically a male, in pursuance of which influencer Logan Paul wrote in a now-deleted X post on August 1, 2024:

“This is the purest form of evil unfolding right before our eyes. A man was allowed to beat up a woman on a global stage, crushing her life’s dream while fighting for her deceased father. This delusion must end.”

For the uninitiated, Imane Khelif competed against Italy's Angela Carini in the quarterfinal of the women's 66kg boxing match competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics on August 1.

While Logan tweeted again the next day to accept that he "might be guilty of spreading misinformation," George Takei responded to the same in a tweet, stating:

"I hope she sues you into oblivion for defamation and crushes your network’s life dream."

Additionally, the Olympic Committee of Algeria published a statement with respect to the online backlash and rumors being spread about Khelif. The statement mentioned that the committee condemns the "unethical targeting and maligning" of Imane Khelif with "baseless propaganda" from foreign media outlets.

"I stand by my sentiment" — Logan Paul admits to spreading misinformation about boxer Imane Khelif

While Logan Paul deleted the previous X post alleging that Imane Khelif was a man, he corrected his statement in another tweet and started the note with "oopsies."

Logan added that although Khelif was disqualified for failing a gender test, the boxer was born a biological woman according to some sources. However, the professional wrestler clarified his stance on the situation by stating:

'I stand by my sentiment that biological men should not compete against biological women in any sport and if you disagree you’re a sick f**k"

Logan also attached a screenshot of a question reading why was Imane Khelif disqualified from the World Championships. The answer stated that the presence of XY chromosomes during her gender eligibility test led to issues with compliance with female category standards.

The professional wrestler followed up his tweet with a question asking:

"Is my opinion that men shouldn’t be allowed to compete against women transphobic?"

So far, 66% of internet users have chosen 'No' as their answer and 34% have agreed with Logan's opinion of being transphobic.

Logan Paul's brother, Jake Paul, also came in support of Angela Carini who quit within 46 seconds of her match with Imane Khelif. Referring to the same rumors as Logan Paul did with respect to Imane Khelif, Jake Paul addressed Angela in a tweet on August 1, 2024.

He mentioned that he would love to offer her a fight on an "MVP undercard" to show the world her talents on a fair platform and "not against a man". Jake also stated that Angela's dreams couldn't come true because there were "crazy agendas at play" in the world at the moment.

In other news, Logan Paul announced in April that he and his girlfriend Nina Agdal were expecting their first child in the fall of 2024. In a unique wrestling match-themed gender reveal party, the professional wrestler shared with his fans that his first child will be a girl.
